About The Position

CityBeat is seeking a curious, plugged-in, and energetic Arts, Culture & Events Reporter to cover Cincinnati's vibrant arts and culture scene. This role is for someone who wants to be deeply embedded in the community, covering visual arts, theater, live music, film, nightlife, festivals, museums, cultural institutions, local personalities, and the people shaping the character of neighborhoods. The reporter will be responsible for breaking arts and culture news, developing original stories, building sources across the region, and making CityBeat the go-to source for understanding what to do in Cincinnati.

Requirements

  • Experience reporting on arts, culture, entertainment, lifestyle, or community topics (professional, freelance, or collegiate).
  • Strong writing, interviewing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to capture scene, voice, and atmosphere.
  • Familiarity with Cincinnati's creative community or a strong curiosity to quickly immerse oneself.
  • Ability to balance quick-turn daily work with longer-form enterprise reporting.
  • Comfort working across digital, social, and print platforms.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and deadline management skills.
  • Flexibility for event-based coverage outside regular business hours.
  • Sound news judgment.
  • Ability to produce fast, thorough, accurate reporting with minimal supervision.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Must share the mission and uphold the guiding principles of LINK Media.

Responsibilities

  • Report and write approximately five reported bylines per week, involving multiple interviews and sources.
  • Write around two short news briefs per day covering announcements, openings and closings, artist and venue news, event developments, and other timely beat-related items.
  • Produce CityBeat's weekly 'Things to Do in Cincinnati This Weekend' guide.
  • Create at least one additional listicle per week highlighting regional activities.
  • Take ownership of CityBeat's broader 'Things to Do in Cincinnati' coverage, identifying new guide ideas, seasonal opportunities, and evergreen topics.
  • Break news concerning Cincinnati's arts and cultural community, including venue changes, leadership shifts, cancellations, major announcements, controversies, and other relevant developments.
  • Develop and maintain sources within the arts, entertainment, and cultural communities.
  • Cover visual arts, theater, music, film, nightlife, festivals, museums, cultural institutions, local personalities, and neighborhood culture.
  • Attend concerts, performances, gallery openings, festivals, and press events as needed for coverage, including nights and weekends.
  • Collaborate with CityBeat's reporters, contributors, and videographer.
  • Work across digital, social, and print platforms.
  • Manage deadlines effectively.
  • Produce fast, thorough, and accurate reporting with minimal supervision.
  • Utilize reliable transportation for coverage.
