Artificial Intelligence Specialist

LWCC People OperationsBaton Rouge, LA

About The Position

The AI Specialist is a senior individual contributor who helps lead the design, governance, and disciplined adoption of artificial intelligence at LWCC. Reporting to the Chief Information Officer, this role partners across Information Technology, Risk, Legal and Compliance, Underwriting, Claims, Safety, Finance, and Human Resources to translate the enterprise AI strategy into practical, well-governed capabilities that strengthen how LWCC serves Louisiana policyholders and injured workers. This position is a hands-on builder and a trusted internal advisor. The AI Specialist evaluates and implements approved AI platforms (including Microsoft Copilot, Salesforce Agentforce, and Anthropic Claude), leads use case discovery and prioritization, and helps operationalize the responsible-AI framework expected of a regulated insurance carrier. The role requires equal fluency in technology, risk, and the business of workers' compensation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Analytics, Engineering, Insurance, Business, or a related field; equivalent professional experience considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in technology, data, analytics, or systems, with at least 1 years focused on applied generative AI, machine learning, innovation, or automation in an enterprise setting.
  • Working knowledge of at least one enterprise AI platform in production use (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, Salesforce Agentforce, Anthropic Claude, OpenAI/Azure OpenAI, Google Gemini, or equivalent).
  • Practical understanding of AI risk domains: data privacy and protection, model bias, hallucination, prompt security, access controls, and auditability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to brief executive and non-technical audiences with clarity and precision.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in insurance, financial services, healthcare, or another highly regulated industry; workers' compensation or property and casualty experience is a meaningful advantage.
  • Familiarity with the NAIC Model Bulletin on the Use of Artificial Intelligence Systems by Insurers and the Louisiana Department of Insurance regulatory environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 Copilot, Salesforce, or Anthropic Claude / Claude Code.
  • Experience with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agentic workflows, evaluation frameworks, and model monitoring.
  • Exposure to NIST AI RMF, ISO/IEC 42001, COSO ERM, or NIST Cybersecurity Framework in practice.

Responsibilities

  • Support the CIO and executive leadership in executing the LWCC AI strategic roadmap, including OKRs (Objectives & Key Results metrics), phased implementation milestones, and measurable business outcomes.
  • Maintain a current, prioritized enterprise AI backlog aligned to corporate strategy, risk appetite, and departmental business cases.
  • Translate strategic direction into actionable plans for pilots, scaled deployments, and sunset decisions.
  • Partner with the Chief Information Officer on the LWCC AI governance framework, including model inventory, intake and approval workflows, acceptable use, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Apply recognized frameworks (NIST AI Risk Management Framework, NAIC Model Bulletin on the Use of AI by Insurers, ISO/IEC 42001) to the design and review of AI use cases.
  • Monitor Louisiana legislative and regulatory developments affecting AI in insurance (including civil liability, consumer rights, employment, and health-care-related provisions) and help translate requirements into internal controls.
  • Document bias, hallucination, data leakage, vendor lock-in, and model drift risks for each use case; recommend technical and procedural mitigations.
  • Support third-party risk reviews of AI vendors, including model provenance, data handling, security posture, and contractual protections.
  • Facilitate structured use case identification across business units; qualify opportunities using value, feasibility, risk, and data-readiness criteria.
  • Lead or co-lead delivery of approved AI pilots and production implementations, working with IT engineering, data, and business owners.
  • Design prompts, agents, retrieval patterns, and integration flows that meet LWCC's quality, security, and auditability standards.
  • Measure outcomes against defined success metrics; close the loop with sponsors, governance, and the board reporting cadence.
  • Serve as LWCC's subject-matter resource for approved AI platforms, including Microsoft 365 Copilot, Salesforce Agentforce, and Anthropic Claude (including Claude Code for approved technical users).
  • Maintain reference architectures, configuration standards, and usage guardrails for each approved platform.
  • Evaluate emerging AI tools and capabilities against LWCC requirements and recommend additions, replacements, or retirements.
  • Partner with Human Resources to build role-based AI fluency across the organization.
  • Design training, office hours, and enablement content that helps employees apply AI thoughtfully in their daily work and identify high-value use cases from the front lines.
  • Champion a culture of curiosity, human oversight, and responsible experimentation — reinforcing that AI augments LWCC's people and does not replace the judgment required to serve policyholders.
