Artificial Intelligence Engineer - Onsite

About The Position

The AI Engineer drives evaluation and adoption of new technologies and engineering approaches at Crane. The role works directly with technology leadership to prototype approaches, advise technical and business teams adopting new tools, and help evolve the technology stack for smooth AI integration. The engineer prioritizes valuable use cases with measurable outcomes and favors simple solutions when added complexity is unnecessary. The position leads technical development and exploration for a small number of high-value, clearly scoped AI proof-of-concept use cases, then partners with engineering teams to turn successful proofs of concept into enterprise-scale, production-ready solutions. It also works with technical leadership to shape data and software architecture for developers and AI agents/models, and helps establish an AI platform approach covering observability, testing and evaluations, authentication and authorization for model plugins and tools, cost management, and flexible model adoption. The role supports business teams with vendor evaluations and project rollouts, advises on technical guardrails, examines vendor implementations, and identifies opportunities to replace higher-cost custom vendor offerings with commoditized tools to reduce lock-in or cost. It also works with technical teams on structured adoption of AI workflow enhancements, such as standardized development copilots that accelerate development and review while minimizing low-quality output. Other duties may be assigned.
