About The Position

Spotsylvania County Public Schools (SCPS) is seeking an Art Teacher for the 26/27 school year. SCPS is one of the largest School Divisions in Virginia, serving over 24,000 diverse students across 31 schools. This role involves developing and implementing instructional programs to provide the best possible education for students, including general instruction and specialized subjects. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Ability to obtain appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) as required by the Commonwealth of Virginia and School Board.
  • An acceptable rating of prior teaching experience, as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Currently possesses a Virginia Collegiate Professional or Postgraduate Professional License within a specific endorsement area(s).
  • Prior teaching experience within a public school system.

Responsibilities

  • Designs coherent instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, current instructional practices, students, the community, and curriculum goals.
  • Plans instruction to achieve desired objectives that reflect the Virginia Standards of Learning and division curriculum guidelines.
  • Creates instructional materials that align with state standards and meets the needs of all learners.
  • Creates and leverages a variety of assessment strategies and instruments to make both short-term and long-term instructional decisions to improve student learning.
  • Administers formal assessments both at the state level and the county level in accordance with established procedures.
  • Documents student learning gains using appropriate assessment instruments.
  • Tracks student learning to show gains.
  • Identifies and communicates specific student performance expectations.
  • Evaluates students' progress.
  • Provides students with prompt specific evaluative feedback.
  • Maintains appropriate records and prepares progress reports.
  • Leverages appropriate materials, technology, and resources in a manner that promotes the development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
  • Implements a classroom management policy that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff.
  • Ensures the adequate and safe supervision of students and manages classroom procedures to maximize academic learning time.
  • Takes responsibility for and participates in a meaningful and continuous process of professional development.
  • Maintains licensure at the state and/or national level.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date.
