About The Position

Hyde Park Day School is seeking a creative, collaborative, and passionate Part-Time Art Teacher to join our Northfield campus and inspire students through meaningful visual arts experiences. This is an exciting opportunity for an educator who enjoys fostering creativity while working closely with students, families, and colleagues in a supportive, mission-driven school environment. The Part-Time Art Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging visual arts instruction that encourages creativity, exploration, and artistic growth. The ideal candidate will create a welcoming classroom environment, develop age-appropriate lessons, and collaborate with school leadership and teachers to support student success. Working approximately 2-3 days per week, this position plays an important role in enriching the student experience through the arts and helping students express themselves through a variety of artistic mediums.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Education, Liberal Arts, or a related field.
  • Background in visual and fine arts.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a multidisciplinary school team.
  • Ability to work on-site at our Northfield campus.

Nice To Haves

  • Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or Illinois Substitute Teaching License.
  • Prior experience teaching visual arts in a school setting.
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging visual arts lessons that encourage creativity, self-expression, and skill development.
  • Develop lesson plans, course outlines, and instructional materials aligned with school goals.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress, achievements, and classroom participation as appropriate.
  • Partner with the Principal and school staff in the development and implementation of the Fine Arts program.
  • Support and enhance the school's visual arts curriculum.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate artistic learning experiences when appropriate.
  • Contribute ideas and expertise to strengthen arts programming across the school community.
  • Ensure art instruction aligns with the mission and values of the school.
  • Maintain and organize art materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Assist with purchasing and inventory management to support program needs.
  • Promote a safe, organized, and engaging learning environment.
