About The Position

The Art Teacher provides an educational atmosphere that encourages positive student learning and participates in a dynamic school setting with classroom teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists, and other staff to develop and implement school programs and goals. The role is grounded in the Diocese of Orlando’s core values of authenticity, respect, courage, and commitment, and requires appreciation for and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings. Employees must conduct themselves in a manner consistent with and supportive of the Church’s mission and purpose and diocesan policies. The teacher collaborates with colleagues, students, and parents; plans and implements hands-on lessons; assesses student needs and progress; and maintains an effective, safe, orderly, and secure classroom. The position also includes maintaining student records, communicating with parents, supporting parental involvement, participating in school activities and professional development, and performing other duties assigned by the principal. Work is performed directly on school campuses, mostly indoors in an environmentally controlled setting. The environment is busy and occasionally noisy, with frequent close proximity to others and possible work in enclosed or tight spaces. The position involves prolonged sitting and standing, reaching, grasping, seeing at close and far distances, verbal and written communication, and use of basic office computer hardware and peripherals. Some light lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of objects weighing up to 15 pounds may be required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college recognized as acceptable for Florida certification.
Must hold or obtain a Professional Certificate in the subject area taught within three years of hire.
Documented progress toward certification must be made within the first year of hire and filed in the school personnel file; otherwise, the teaching contract cannot be renewed.
Must hold or obtain Faith Fit Enrichment Certification in Levels 1, 2, and 3 within three years of hire and continue ongoing enrichment.
Appreciation and respect for the Catholic Church and its teachings; conduct must be consistent with and supportive of the Church’s mission and purpose, and must not violate Church faith, morals, laws, or diocesan policies.
Ability to communicate, listen to, and understand information presented verbally.
Ability to read and understand written information.
Ability to sit and stand for long periods; reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar; use basic office computer hardware and peripherals; and communicate verbally and in writing, with or without reasonable accommodation.
Ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary-to-light work, including occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of objects and materials weighing up to 15 pounds.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with teachers, staff, students, and parents as part of a team of educators in a family-style environment.
Work with administrators and instructional teams to plan and implement hands-on lessons.
Diagnose and analyze student needs to provide appropriate instruction.
Use varied instructional techniques to meet individual student needs.
Assess student progress according to Diocese of Orlando-approved procedures.
Use classroom management techniques that support an effective classroom climate.
Participate in the Diocese of Orlando Diocesan Catechist Certification Program and school-sponsored professional development.
Cooperate with the principal and staff in school-related meetings, activities, and projects.
Maintain accurate student academic, attendance, and other required records, including grade books and progress reports.
Maintain a safe, orderly, and secure learning and working environment.
Participate in performance reviews based on the general responsibilities of a professional educator.
Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding personnel, students, and school matters.
Maintain professional relationships with parents and communicate through conferences, telephone, or written communications.
Encourage parental involvement in school activities and connections between home and school.
Assist in protecting student and school property.
Keep current with job-appropriate technology used by Diocese Catholic Schools.
Maintain timely and accurate information relevant to job responsibilities.
Perform duties in accordance with Diocesan Catholic Schools policies.
Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
