Art Instructor
About The Position
The Art Instructor provides art instruction to guests of all ages in the Art Spot and Studio One during the festival season. The instructor may teach independently using a pre-designed class or a class of their choosing, and may occasionally assist an artist-led class in Studio One by supporting guests and providing supplementary instruction. The role includes preparing and stocking class materials, welcoming patrons and addressing their questions, maintaining an organized and pleasant studio environment, following the Supervisor’s schedule and the festival’s Standard Operating Procedures, and completing other assigned duties. The position is seasonal. The posting also mentions a separate Ceramic Instructor position for applicants interested in working across all three art studios.
Requirements
- Available to work day, evening, and weekend shifts.
- Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask and solve problems.
- Grace under pressure.
- Ability to learn new phone and web applications; the organization uses Paycom as its employee management system.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, bend, reach, pick up small objects, and use common artistry tools and paints.
Nice To Haves
- Art experience is preferred but not required.
- Teaching experience and/or experience working with children is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide art instruction to guests of all ages in the Art Spot and Studio One.
- Teach independently in Studio One or the Art Spot, using a pre-designed class or a class of the instructor’s choosing.
- Occasionally assist an artist-led class in Studio One by supporting guests and providing supplementary instruction.
- Prepare class materials for the week and ensure class bins are properly stocked.
- Engage directly with patrons, welcome them, give them appropriate attention, and address their needs efficiently.
- Politely and respectfully answer customer questions, regardless of the customer’s knowledge or experience.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and keep materials and supplies stocked throughout the day.
- Maintain a pleasant work environment for customers and colleagues.
- Provide availability in a timely manner and adhere to the schedule set by the Supervisor.
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures governing operations and represent the Sawdust Festival as a brand ambassador.
- Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
