About The Position

This position provides assistance in both the Lucas Art Workshop, Ed & Doreen Kellogg Gallery, and supports the teaching of Creative Arts Foundations (COR 160) classes. The role involves a variety of administrative and practical tasks, requiring reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work independently. Specific duties vary depending on whether the focus is gallery assistance or COR 160 assistance, but both require careful attention to detail and timely completion of tasks.

Requirements

  • Current Covenant College student
  • At least Junior standing
  • Friendly, reliable, willing to learn, punctual
  • Motivated, problem-solving, can work unsupervised
  • Has taken ART 270 (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Has a personal laptop or tablet to use for work
  • Basic knowledge of Canvas and Google Suite
  • Able to handle sensitive information concerning fellow students (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Able to get necessary assigned tasks done on time
  • Basic knowledge of fractions in spatial measurements and assessment for exhibition layout/ design (for Gallery assistance)
  • Willing to get dirty at times (for Gallery assistance)
  • Able to handle artworks with care (for Gallery assistance)

Nice To Haves

  • Art Major preferred
  • Interpersonal skills helpful, regarding gallery visitor relations (for Gallery assistance)

Responsibilities

  • Keep Gallery clean and free of clutter (for Gallery assistance)
  • Be aware of the needs of the Gallery and inform the Art Professors (for Gallery assistance)
  • Assist in the layout and installation of artworks in the Gallery, including removal/documentation of packaging/ repackaging (for Gallery assistance)
  • Patch and paint walls as needed, including care of the Gallery space at large (for Gallery assistance)
  • Assist in the campus-wide distribution of Gallery exhibition information, as needed (for Gallery assistance)
  • Serve as Gallery Attendant during any posted public hours and participate in visitor relations during those times (for Gallery assistance)
  • Performs administrative and practical tasks to support the teaching of Creative Arts Foundations classes (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Helps set up and clean up instructor demonstrations, when applicable (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Perform administrative and practical tasks to support the teaching of Creative Arts Foundations (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Serve as assistant to the Art Professor of Creative Arts Foundations (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Objective grading for art rotations (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Responsible for updating grades in Canvas (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Updating and preparing handouts (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Preparing for and assisting in class with studio assignments (up to 5 hours/week in Fall; 3 hours/week in Spring) (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Attend all Art events and take attendance throughout the event
  • Assist other Creative Arts Foundations Professors with clerical tasks as needed (for COR 160 assistance)
  • Assist other work-study students in the department with special tasks such as getting ready for specific events
