About The Position

Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction (ACAGJ) is seeking an Art Education Teacher for grades K-12. This role is responsible for cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming, while maintaining professionalism and exemplifying core virtues. The teacher will prepare and deliver engaging art lessons aligned with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide, utilizing classical pedagogy methods. Responsibilities include assigning, grading, and returning student work, monitoring student progress, and collaborating with the Students Services team for special educational plans. The teacher will also assist in daily school operations, participate in professional development, maintain confidentiality, and foster positive relationships within the school community.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree/passing score on the State Praxis in the subject area
Strong background in content areas; willingness to receive specific training
Proficiency in a variety of teaching strategies and techniques to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and inspire students to achieve their personal best
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues

Demonstrate proficiency in both written and spoken English to effectively perform their job responsibilities and communicate in the workplace

Nice To Haves

Some teachers will need to be able to attend training in Hillsdale, MI, for up to 10 days in June. ACACS and Hillsdale cover conference travel, lodging, and food.

Responsibilities

Cultivating virtue through instruction, mentorship, and programming
Maintaining professionalism in conduct and communication, striving to exemplify our core virtues
Prepare unit and lesson plans for all courses in alignment with Hillsdale College's K12 Program Guide for each school year
Teach and mentor students, utilizing classical pedagogy methods
Assign, collect, grade, and return graded work in a timely manner
Continuously monitor student progress and self-evaluate how best to support effective student learning
Proactively identify struggling or advanced students to provide additional support or academic extensions
Collaborate with Students Services team to meet requirements of special educational plans, such as IEPs, 504s, and others
Assist in daily operations of the school (e.g., taking attendance, supervising student arrivals, passing periods in hallways, lunchtime and recess supervision) on a shared schedule
Participate in professional development as offered by ACACS and Hillsdale College's K12 Office
Maintain confidentiality in student records
Maintains a collegial, professional relationship with students, parents, and colleagues as a partner in the community of learners
Performs other related duties as directed
Deliver engaging and inclusive art lessons for students in grades K-12, focusing on skill development
Evaluate and monitor student progress through regular assessments and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration
Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and participation
Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities
Manage and maintain art equipment and supplies, ensuring they are safe and in good condition
