Substitute Teacher at a Classical Charter School
About The Position
Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction is seeking a substitute teacher to cover classes when teachers are absent and support the school’s operations and classical education culture. The substitute follows lesson plans, teaches and supervises students, and maintains professional, confidential, and ethical conduct. When substitute coverage is not needed, the role provides operational and instructional support, including supervision during school routines, lunch, recess, and transitions. The position works on school days from 7:15 to 3:45 as needed and reports to the Dean of Student Activities.
Requirements
- Commitment to the mission and vision of ACACS.
- Commitment to the high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Adherence to school policies.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Regular and punctual attendance.
- Ability to develop positive, professional relationships with team members.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Pass the required comprehensive background check, including criminal-record review and fingerprinting.
- Provide verifiable proof of qualifications or certifications when required and undergo reference checks.
- Familiarity with and adherence to Colorado education laws and standards.

Responsibilities
- Follow lesson plans to teach and supervise classes as needed.
- Respond promptly to teacher requests for substitute coverage.
- Leave teachers notes about the day's events, student progress, or challenges, including substitute teacher binder and lesson-plan needs.
- Build positive relationships with students while maintaining high standards of conduct.
- Maintain ethical behavior and confidentiality.
- When substitute teaching is not needed, assist with school operations and instructional support, including supervision of beginning- and end-of-day routines, lunch, recess, and transitions.
- Maintain professional, collegial relationships with colleagues and staff.
- Complete required training and provide documentation.
- Maintain reliable, punctual attendance and follow procedures for absences or tardiness.
- Communicate effectively in written and spoken English.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
