About The Position

The Art Center Intern assists with various activities at the Art Center, including summer children’s camps or after-school children’s programs, assistance in the Hot Shop, technique demonstration, cleaning and maintenance, oversight of craft activities with children, assisting with planning and implementing art activities, sorting supplies and checking inventory, and monitoring children for safety. The intern will also assist with setting up Gallery Receptions and Special Events, greet guests and discuss artwork, maintain inventory of event department supplies, assist with breaking down events, and maintain the Events Calendar. This role requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong time management and organizational skills, self-motivation, the ability to work independently and in a team environment, and knowledge of current art trends and techniques. All positions at the City of Orange Beach require handling sensitive information confidentially, maintaining a professional attitude, providing responsible leadership, communicating positively, attending meetings and professional development activities, complying with all pertinent policies and laws, ensuring positive promotion of the City, and being prompt and punctual. This is a part-time position requiring variable scheduling, 3 days per week, Monday-Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or its equivalent.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License
  • Willing to work overtime, weekends, and other nonstandard hours when necessary
  • Having experience in working with children is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of current art trends, techniques.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with setting up Gallery Receptions, and Special Events.
  • Greets guests and talks to them about artwork.
  • Assists with maintaining inventory of event department supplies, including equipment and materials to ensure efficiency in the department.
  • Assists with breaking down events as needed.
  • Maintains and updates Events Calendar.
  • Communicates well with Artists.
  • Handles sensitive information in a confidential manner.
  • Maintains a highly professional attitude and demeanor at all times.
  • Provides responsible, appropriate, and satisfactory leadership within the City.
  • Communicates positively and professionally in all aspects of the position.
  • Attends all department meetings, City meetings, and professional development activities.
  • Becomes thoroughly familiar with all pertinent state and national policies and comply with said policies.
  • Complies with City wide and departmental policies, as well as state and federal laws.
  • Ensures the positive promotion of the City.
  • Is prompt and punctual in reporting for work, meetings, etc.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
