About The Position

The City of Pearland, TX is seeking to hire a full-time Arson Investigator to lead and improve aspects of the day-to-day operations of our Fire Marshal Office. The successful candidate will be a high performing, detail-oriented, positive individual with an intuitive personality that is professionally adept to working in a multifaceted environment. You possess excellent oral and written communication skills, are well-organized, flexible, and act with independence and sound judgment. The ideal Arson Investigator is driven by the need to ensure that every investigation is conducted thoroughly and with the highest integrity. You understand the big-picture impact of your decisions and are confident in your ability to explore and stay abreast of industry standards and trends related to arson investigations.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized courses/training equivalent to completion of one year of college in fire science or closely related field.
  • TCOLE Peace Officer Certification
  • TCFP Fire Inspector Certification
  • TCFP Fire Investigator Certification
  • ICS 100, 200, 700, 800
  • Texas Class "C" Driver's License

Nice To Haves

  • Plans Examiner I (preferred, but not required)
  • Experience pertaining to fire inspections, fire investigation, or closely related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Performs fire inspections of new and existing facilities and/or structures to ensure compliance with various laws and City Ordinances.
  • Meets with contractors and examines building plans as needed to discuss projects under construction.
  • Performs plan reviews of facilities and/or structures being proposed in the City to ensure they meet the requirements as adopted by the City.
  • Performs fire investigations.
  • Performs investigations related to professional standards.
  • Enforces environmental crimes.
  • Manages evidence in the event of criminal acts.
  • Performs data entry, record keeping, and reporting.
  • Ensures evidence is secure related to investigations.
  • Enforces federal, state, and local laws and codes.
  • Performs fire prevention education.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
