About The Position

The City of Richmond is seeking an "ARSON INVESTIGATOR / INSPECTOR" for the Fire Department. This role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills for professional and courteous interaction with the public, including difficult individuals. The position involves conducting fire and criminal investigations, fire and life safety inspections, and educational programs. Additionally, the Investigator / Inspector will perform building and other inspections to ensure public health, safety, and welfare, and will assist the Fire Marshal with plan reviews for code compliance. This position is subject to being "On-Call".

Requirements

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • A valid Class C Texas Driver's License is required.
  • Driving records must meet City guidelines.
  • Current certification as a Peace Officer issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
  • Current certification as an Arson Investigator and Fire Inspector issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP).
  • Current Structural Fire Suppression certification issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
  • Current Plan Examiner I certification issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection; certification may be obtained within the first year of employment.
  • Current Fire and Life Safety Educator I certification issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection; certification may be obtained within the first year of employment.
  • Current Instructor I certification issued by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection; certification may be obtained within the first year of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700 and 800 preferred.
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic certification issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services preferred.
