About The Position

This role is responsible for maintaining the security and accountability of keys, firearms, chemical agents, and ammunition within the armory. The Armory Locksmith will perform routine maintenance, track inventory, issue and remove keys, and ensure the safe handling and storage of all controlled items. The position also involves maintaining logs, preparing reports, and promoting appropriate behavior among staff and inmates. Additionally, the role requires adherence to all safety protocols and performing other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of firearms, firearm safety, and key control procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Valid driver’s license, where applicable
  • Successful completion of required training and on-the-job instruction in accordance with company standards

Nice To Haves

  • Locksmith certification preferred
  • Minimum of two (2) years of related experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records of all permanently issued keys to personnel.
  • Track and document all keys checked in and out of central control on a daily basis.
  • Perform routine maintenance on keys and key rings.
  • Issue new keys and maintain detailed records of all additions.
  • Remove obsolete or unused keys and document all changes accordingly.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all keys stored in the armory.
  • Ensure the safe handling, storage, and accountability of all firearms, chemical agents, and ammunition.
  • Maintain and update the armory equipment issuance log.
  • Verify staff authorization and certification prior to issuing firearms or chemical agents.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, logs, and documentation in accordance with company standards.
  • Model and promote appropriate behavior, reinforcing positive interactions and addressing inappropriate conduct.
  • Maintain accountability of staff, inmates, and property while adhering to all safety protocols.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the role, as determined by management.
