About The Position

The Armed Security Officer provides a visible, armed deterrent presence at Building 1623 during non-business hours, protecting a leased, cleared Government facility. Officers control facility access and integrity, detect and report anomalies, respond to alarm activations, and summon appropriate authority – the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) and 688 CW Facility Security Personnel. This is an observe-and-report and deterrent role, not a law-enforcement role: officers do not conduct pursuit, apprehension, arrest, or offensive engagement. Weapons are carried for deterrence and the officer's personal protection under a restrictive, defensive use-of-force policy.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship, with proof provided to the Security Office before performance (Government-verified).
• Active U.S. SECRET clearance, adjudicated before award and submittable via DISS to 688 CW/SO.
• Able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Not a current U.S. Air Force employee (military or civilian) absent prior written approval; no conflict-of-interest employment.
• Eligible to possess and carry a firearm under all applicable state and federal law; no disqualifying criminal history.
• Texas commissioned security officer license – Level III (commissioned/armed) baseline; Level IV (personal protection officer) if the role is scoped that way. [Pending arming-authority confirmation.]
• Current firearms qualification; willingness to requalify on SandTech's schedule (annual or semi-annual).
• Valid Texas driver's license and clean driving record (for vehicle-based roving, if applicable).
• Availability for non-business-hours shifts: weeknights, full weekends (1730 Fri–0600 Mon), Federal Holidays, and Family Days.
• Physically able to conduct 3-hour perimeter patrols and stand/rove a post for a full shift in variable weather.
• Neat, clean, professional appearance at all times.
• Demonstrated sound judgment operating under a restrictive, defensive rules-for-the-use-of-force framework.
• De-escalation skills and a deter-detect-report disposition; no pursuit/apprehension mindset.
• Reliable, accurate report writing and log-keeping.

Nice To Haves

• Prior military Security Forces, DoD/contract armed guard, or law-enforcement background – frequently carries clearance and armed qualification together.
• Experience at a cleared / ICD 705 facility.
• Current, transferable SECRET (or higher) clearance to minimize pre-award sourcing time.
• First aid / CPR / AED certification.

Responsibilities

• Staff a fixed post or conduct roving interior/exterior patrol during assigned non-business-hours shifts.
• Conduct a documented exterior perimeter check not to exceed every three hours; report deficiencies to 688 CW Security.
• Spin the OX-style lock dials at the start of each shift and promptly report any lock problems.
• Respond to alarm activations, inspect for evidence of forced entry, and stand by at the front entry until formally released.
• On any clear or apparent sign of breach, immediately notify SAPD, remain on site, and stay until SAPD and 688 CW Facility Security Personnel are fully debriefed and the officer is released.
• Complete formal alarm and shift-turnover reports; maintain accurate logs of responses and building checks.
• Draw and return the assigned weapon at the SandTech office under documented chain-of-custody procedures each shift.
• Maintain firearms qualification and complete all required training.
