About The Position

Sentara Princess Anne Hospital is hiring an Armed Security Officer for the night shift. The Armed Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees. This role involves monitoring concealed weapons detection systems, informing individuals about weapon policies, and potentially securing weapons. Officers may patrol the campus, respond to emergencies, conduct camera surveillance, maintain logs, document activities, and perform security investigations. A Fit for Duty assessment, psychological evaluation, and Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate are required. Certified Healthcare Security Officer and Handle with Care Certification are also necessary within 90 days of hire.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (Required)
  • Virginia DCJS – Armed Officer Certificate within 90 days of hire (Required)
  • Certified Healthcare Security Officer (CHSO) certification by International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) within 90 days of hire (Required)
  • One year of security experience (Required)
  • Must pass the Psychological Evaluation and Assessment conducted by the Sentara selected Service Provider
  • Must pass the Fit for Duty assessment

Nice To Haves

  • Former military, law enforcement, or security officer experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a physically safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Actively monitors Concealed Weapons Detection System(s) at division entrances.
  • Informs visitors/patients that weapons are not allowed in the hospital and may secure weapons for the duration of their visit.
  • May patrol the campus and monitor activity in and around buildings and grounds.
  • Responds appropriately to routine and emergency situations.
  • Performs camera surveillance.
  • Maintains department logs and records.
  • Uses computer skills for documentation of daily activities.
  • Conducts security investigations.
  • Evaluates situations and takes appropriate steps for professional and timely resolution.
