About The Position

The Armed Security Officer helps ensure the safety and security of DreamFields personnel, facilities, and assets. The role includes conducting patrols, monitoring surveillance systems, managing access points, preventing unauthorized entry, and responding to security incidents. Officers are expected to provide a professional, visible presence, act effectively under pressure, and follow applicable security protocols and New York State licensing requirements.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position in Peekskill, New York. Shift times and workdays are set according to operational needs and may vary. Evening, weekend, and holiday work, as well as occasional overtime, may be required. Schedule details may change based on staffing and operational requirements; advance notice will be provided when feasible.

The work may involve exposure to cannabis plant material, dust, and other potential allergens. Required personal protective equipment is provided. Candidates must be willing to submit to a background check.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Strong de-escalation, self-defense, and conflict-resolution skills.
• Clear, professional verbal and written communication.
• Strong situational awareness and sound decision-making under pressure.
• High attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
• Reliability, discretion, and commitment to safety.
• Valid New York State Concealed Pistol License; photo evidence is required.
• Valid New York State Armed Guard Card; photos of the front and back are required.
• Required New York State security guard registration and training: 8-hour pre-assignment training before licensing, 16-hour on-the-job training within 90 days of hire if not already completed, and 8-hour annual in-service training each calendar year.
• Licensing and training documentation must be verified before hire.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including interior and exterior patrols and regular stair use.
• Ability to respond quickly to incidents, including brisk movement or short jogs, and to safely escort or physically support individuals when trained and required.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors amid noise, changing temperatures, weather, and other facility conditions.
• Ability to remain alert while sitting, standing, or monitoring security systems for long periods or entire shifts.
• Sufficient vision and hearing, with or without corrective devices, to observe surroundings and respond to alarms, radios, and access-control systems.
• Must be willing to submit to a background check.

Nice To Haves

• At least 2 years of experience in armed security, law enforcement, or military service.
• Experience in cannabis, high-risk environments, or regulated industries.

Responsibilities

• Secure the designated post with discipline, situational awareness, and professionalism.
• Monitor and manage access control, including screening visitors, employees, and guests.
• Conduct regular perimeter patrols and safety inspections throughout the facility.
• Respond promptly to onsite incidents and escalate them according to established security protocols.
• Monitor surveillance systems to support safe operations and deter suspicious behavior.
• Verify the functionality of gates, doors, locks, surveillance equipment, and alarm systems.
• Maintain accurate shift logs and incident reports.
• Keep required training current to remain compliant with New York State licensing standards.
