About The Position

Cook Nuclear Plant is currently recruiting Armed Security Officers for its next class, which will begin in early August. The role involves performing security duties related to access control, equipment maintenance, and responding to security incidents within a nuclear power plant environment. This position requires adherence to strict procedures, NRC regulations, and site-specific plans.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • At least 1 year of experience in military, law enforcement, or security OR 2 years of nuclear industry experience where work is performed within the Protected Area.
  • Must meet the 21 years of age minimum requirement.
  • Must meet all assigned requirements of the Cook Nuclear Plant’s Physical Security Plan, Training and Qualification Plan, approved site procedures and/or State requirements.
  • Must pass a medical and psychological exam.
  • Must pass a physical agility test.
  • Must meet the general criteria for security personnel as outlined in 10CFR, Part 73, Appendix B.
  • Carry assigned duty gear and contingency gear as needed (up to 50 lbs. at a time).
  • Able to walk, run, climb stairs and ladders.
  • Able to work in or respond to various stressful, threatening adverse conditions.
  • Able to qualify on and wear a respirator.
  • Able to work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform security duties related to access control of controlled areas, entrance gates, protected and vital areas.
  • Conduct personnel and vehicle searches.
  • Perform escort duties.
  • Implement compensatory measures.
  • Monitor watch and conduct operability testing of security equipment.
  • Maintain operability of security and contingency equipment.
  • Maintain operability and working knowledge of weapons and related equipment.
  • Investigate and report violations of security procedures, rules, or abnormal conditions.
  • Respond to alarms and assess situations, taking appropriate measures.
  • Maintain required logs and documentation.
  • Assist in testing security barriers and systems.
  • Work safely in a nuclear, industrial, and radiological environment.
  • Report to work for various shifts, days of the week, weekends, holidays, and various hours, and be available on short notice.
  • Establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.
