About The Position

Assists in providing a safe and secure environment for team members, physicians, patients, and visitors by providing a visible deterrence to crime and responding to calls of assistance. Patrols assigned areas of the hospital's main campus and associated properties. Investigates security incidents and violations and pursues the appropriate course of action. Interviews victims and witnesses to obtain information regarding violations, accidents, and security-related incidents. Prepares reports of security-related incidents. Issues parking citations and provides traffic control when necessary. On an assigned shift, operates patrol vehicle or specialized security equipment or walks to observe for suspicious activities or persons. Assists law enforcement agencies at their request while on hospital property. Participates in annual in-service training and other training programs. Provides security escorts to visitors and staff members. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart.
  • Must pass State required armed guard training, law enforcement bonding, law enforcement background check, law enforcement psychological evaluation, law enforcement weapons qualifications, annual law enforcement in-service training and other qualifications for licensing such as baton, chemical, handcuff, taser, IAHSS Basic, etc.
  • Must understand hospital security responsibilities and operations.
  • Must know the importance of punctuality, dependability, professional appearance, willingness to assist others, and adapt to change in responsibilities.
  • Must be able to identify security risks and take proper actions without direct supervision.
  • Must be skilled in report writing, proper response, customer service, and emergency protocols.
  • Able to protect themselves and others during altercations and calmly handle odd and sporadic incidents without hesitation.
  • Able to remain calm under stressful situations.
  • Professionally and courteously interact with visitors/patients.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of security experience with at least One (1) year experience in hospital setting preferred.
  • Certification as an armed security officer preferred.
  • Baton, Cuff, and Taser certification preferred.
