About The Position

School Security Officers are responsible for protecting schools in the district against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry. This role involves being a first responder to campus events, patrolling assigned areas, maintaining a visible presence, and ensuring the security of buildings and campus perimeters. The officer will also make recommendations for security improvements, monitor surveillance, participate in threat assessment teams, and collaborate with law enforcement and school administration.

Requirements

  • Possess a security license from the state.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • At least five calendar years of verifiable experience as a certified law enforcement officer or its military equivalency; all five years must have occurred within the last seven years.
  • Experience must have included general arrest authority.
  • Minimum of 25 years of age.
  • Ability to pass criminal background check and drug test.
  • Law Enforcement or Military Police 5 years.
  • Reliable phone & transportation.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Good work history.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful resident status.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Supporting I-9 documents.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a law enforcement officer or military police.
  • Experience with general arrest authority.

Responsibilities

  • First responder to any and all events that occur on campus property.
  • Patrol the assigned campus both inside the buildings and the perimeter.
  • Be highly visible on campus with a focus on before and after school and at lunch.
  • Maintain external security of the buildings.
  • Make recommendations to correct identified security issues on campus.
  • Observe arrival and departure of students.
  • Ensure that no unauthorized individuals gain access to the campus.
  • Work with the staff to intervene in situations that can cause disruptions of the learning environment.
  • Monitors video surveillance at the school.
  • Becomes a part of the school threat assessment team.
  • Develops and fosters communication with the patrolling law enforcement agency that serves their school.
  • Communicates regularly with the site administration as well as the direct supervisor.
  • Completes other assigned duties.
