About The Position

The Area Vice President, Anesthesia is a key member of the Area’s senior management team, providing visionary leadership and fostering a common vision for the NSL (likely referring to a specific service line). This role serves as an NSL representative for Division and Area(s) initiatives, collaborating with leadership to vet and prioritize major program and clinical services initiatives, and modeling financial impact for new business models. The position leads monthly operation performance reviews, monitors budget-to-actuals, investigates variances, and recommends corrective actions. It involves developing and implementing annual business plans, growth strategies, and operational objectives, while overseeing both ambulatory and inpatient services to ensure high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency. The role focuses on building effective teams, fostering collaboration, influencing others to achieve institutional goals, and supporting institutional program planning. Integration and optimization of NSL operations and best practices across the Area(s) are key, including supporting merger, acquisition, and new partnership activities. The Area Vice President represents the NSL in local and state forums, coordinates with physician co-leaders, and leads the negotiation, management, and oversight of physician contracts. Direct management of administrative service line leaders, including hiring, evaluations, development, and disciplinary procedures, is also a core responsibility. The role leads workforce strategy, fosters a culture of engagement, accountability, and excellence, and ensures compliance with all organizational policies and regulatory requirements. Continuous improvement in employee experience, maintaining low turnover rates, and promoting professional development are emphasized. Collaboration on budget preparation, review, and endorsement of NSL budgets and reforecasts, along with long-term planning alignment, are critical. The position identifies value capture and efficiency opportunities, creates measurement methods, and ensures effective resource allocation, budget management, capital planning, and financial performance. Championing quality improvement and patient safety initiatives, enhancing patient experience measures, and supporting the development and implementation of new programs and services are also key functions. The role promotes continuous quality improvement, error reduction, process improvement, and benchmarking for growth. Collaboration with marketing and community relations to enhance access and awareness, and support for the academic mission through research, education, and innovation are also part of the responsibilities. Finally, the Area Vice President partners with clinical and academic leaders to ensure clinical operations support educational and research programs and facilitates the translation of discovery into the clinical environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health or related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of healthcare administrative experience, including at least 5 years of demonstrated progressively responsible management experience overseeing clinical operations or service lines, required.
  • Effective communication, ensuring transparency and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated expertise in healthcare planning, operations, and financial management.
  • Proven ability to lead large, multispecialty service lines in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Exceptional communication, relationship-building, and change management skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Standard office environment.
  • Must be able to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
  • Regular travel throughout the designated Area(s).

Responsibilities

  • Participates as a member of the Area’s senior management team, participates in the Area(s) leadership table, provides visionary leadership, holds service line expertise and fosters a common vision for the NSL.

  • Leads Area(s) monthly operation performance reviews at Area(s) leadership forums, monitors budgettoactuals, investigates variances, and recommends corrective actions to NSL, Division and Area(s) leadership.
  • Develops and implements annual business plans, growth strategies, and operational objectives that support the Area’s and NSL goals.
  • Oversees both ambulatory and inpatient services across the care continuum, ensuring high standards of clinical quality, patient safety, and operational efficiency.

  • Directly manages administrative service line leaders, including hiring, evaluations, development, and disciplinary procedures in accordance with organizational policies.
  • Leads workforce strategy for the Area(s), including staffing and leadership development.
  • Fosters a culture of engagement, accountability, and excellence among all teammates and physician partners.
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and standards of behavior.
  • Improves employee experience, maintains low turnover rates, and promotes professional development.
  • Collaborates on preparation of annual operating and capital budgets, review and endorse NSL budgets and reforecasts, and ensure long-term planning aligns with NSL goals and objectives.
