About The Position

The Area Temple Facilities Manager is a senior executive-level leader responsible for providing strategic direction, spiritual stewardship, organizational leadership, and operational governance for a complex portfolio of temples and supporting facilities. The role requires a temple-worthy leader with sound judgment, executive presence, and trusted character who can counsel and influence Church leaders, align resources to long-term stewardship priorities, and lead geographically dispersed teams with accountability, humility, and a commitment to the mission of the Church. Successful candidates must combine deep technical knowledge of facilities operations, building systems, asset lifecycle management, capital planning, risk mitigation, and financial stewardship with the ability to develop leaders, build organizational capability, strengthen succession readiness, and foster a culture of service excellence, continuous improvement, and reverence for the sacred nature of temple work.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Building Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in facilities management, asset stewardship, engineering, construction, or a related discipline, including demonstrated success setting strategic direction, leading complex operations, developing leaders, managing large-scale facilities portfolios, and influencing outcomes across multidisciplinary and geographically dispersed teams.
An equivalent combination of education and experience totaling fourteen (14) years may be considered.
Proven senior leadership ability with a sustained record of building organizational capability, developing high-performing leaders and teams, strengthening succession readiness, driving change, and influencing positive outcomes across complex, geographically dispersed operations.
Comprehensive knowledge of building systems, facilities operations, asset lifecycle management, maintenance programs, capital planning, risk mitigation, and industry best practices, with the ability to apply that expertise to executive-level decisions that preserve sacred facilities, improve reliability, and optimize long-term stewardship.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically, anticipate future facility and organizational needs, and translate long-term stewardship objectives into clear priorities, resource plans, and operational execution while effectively balancing immediate business and facility needs.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to counsel, influence, and align Church leaders, employees, contractors, consultants, and external stakeholders around priorities, standards, decisions, and stewardship outcomes.
Strong analytical, financial, and organizational leadership skills, with demonstrated experience managing significant budgets, aligning resources to strategic priorities, evaluating tradeoffs, and using data-informed insights to improve performance, mitigate risk, and strengthen long-term stewardship.
Proficiency with technology, business systems, and facilities management tools, combined with the ability to use information, analytics, and performance indicators to guide priorities, strengthen accountability, improve operational consistency, and drive continuous improvement across the facilities portfolio.
Demonstrated professional maturity, sound judgment, executive presence, and trusted leadership character, with the ability to lead with integrity, humility, accountability, spiritual steadiness, and a deep commitment to the mission and values of the Church.

Experience serving in a temple environment, with a strong understanding of temple operations, sacred standards, and the unique stewardship responsibilities associated with temple facilities.

Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, with the clarity, professionalism, and judgment expected when advising leaders, aligning teams, and representing the Temple Facilities Services organization.

Responsibilities

Serve as the senior facilities management leader and principal subject matter expert for the assigned temples in the area, providing strategic direction, operational governance, and leadership for a large and geographically dispersed portfolio of temples and ancillary facilities.
Lead and develop multidisciplinary teams, including Facility Managers, Custodial, Grounds, and Security personnel, to achieve exceptional performance, foster accountability, build leadership capacity, and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and service excellence.
Direct the stewardship of 10 to 16 temples and supporting facilities, typically encompassing 500,000 to 1,000,000 square feet of facilities across multiple states, regions, or countries.
Ensure the effective management of complex operations, maintenance programs, risk mitigation initiatives, and long-term asset preservation strategies that support the sacred mission of the Church.
Provide leadership and governance over an extensive annual capital renewal and improvement program, typically overseeing 150 to 300 replacement and improvement projects each year.
Establish priorities, align funding and resources with strategic stewardship objectives, evaluate risks and trade-offs, manage budgets, and ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Church standards and strategic objectives.
Lead, mentor, and develop a workforce of approximately 40 to 130 employees, building organizational capability, strengthening leadership succession, and fostering a high-performance culture grounded in faith, stewardship, collaboration, and service.
Inspire teams to achieve operational excellence while maintaining a focus on employee development, engagement, and accountability.
As the most area's senior authority in the temples, provide expert counsel, strategic recommendations, and trusted leadership insight to Church leaders and stakeholders, influencing decisions that preserve sacred facilities, optimize resources, mitigate risk, and support the long-term mission of the Church.
Through effective leadership, ensure that temple facilities remain safe, functional, beautiful, and worthy of the sacred ordinances performed within them.
Provide visionary leadership, direction, and oversight for the Temple Facilities Services Division, ensuring the effective recruitment, development, engagement, and performance management of a multidisciplinary workforce.
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and service excellence that aligns with the mission and values of the Church.
Build organizational capability by mentoring, coaching, and developing Facility Managers and support teams through structured training, leadership development, and succession planning initiatives.
Enhance individual and team performance by providing both on-site and remote guidance, cultivating technical expertise, leadership capacity, and a commitment to operational excellence.
Serve as the functional leader and subject matter expert for temple facilities operations within the assigned area.
Develop and maintain maintenance standards, procedures, guides, and training materials that promote consistency, efficiency, reliability, and compliance across all temple facilities.
Identify emerging industry practices and technologies, and lead the evaluation, testing, and implementation of innovative maintenance methods, systems, and equipment that improve operational effectiveness and asset longevity.
Provide strategic oversight for the development and execution of the annual facilities stewardship plan, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, operational requirements, and long-term asset management objectives.
Direct all aspects of facilities operations, including maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair programs for electrical, mechanical, building automation, audio-visual, and technology systems to ensure the continuous operation and preservation of sacred facilities.
Exercise sound financial stewardship by planning, managing, and optimizing departmental budgets, labor resources, and operational expenditures.
Oversee both employee and contract labor while establishing and maintaining productive relationships with vendors, consultants, and service providers to ensure high-quality service, value, and accountability.
Collaborate with project teams, architects, engineers, interior designers, and Church leaders by providing facilities management expertise during the planning, design, construction, renovation, and improvement of temple facilities.
Advocate for operational sustainability, maintainability, and lifecycle stewardship to ensure facilities effectively support current and future needs.
Influence strategic decision-making by providing expert counsel, recommendations, and operational insights to senior Church leaders and key stakeholders.
May serve as a member of the Section Manager Area Council, contributing to area-wide planning, governance, resource allocation, and long-term strategic initiatives that support the mission of the Church.
Lead with a stewardship mindset, ensuring that temple facilities are maintained to the highest standards of safety, functionality, reliability, beauty, and reverence.
