About The Position

The Area Scout is responsible for observing, evaluating and recommending amateur baseball players in an assigned geography in order to facilitate the drafting and signing of top talent by the Athletics. Other responsibilities include procuring all pertinent player data, conducting personal interviews, summer and fall scouting coverage, professional scouting coverage and gathering other information to assist in the assessment of prospects.

Requirements

• Prior professional scouting experience
• High degree of baseball acumen and understanding of evaluating baseball skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of audiences.
• Flexibility to work extensive hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as necessary.
• Willingness to travel and available to be away from home for multiple nights in a row.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Oversee baseball activity in the assigned territory of Northern California.
• Attend necessary showcases, games, workouts, and tournaments within the territory.
• Evaluate amateur baseball players and create scouting reports on their current skills and projection of potential future skills.
• Produce, curate, and analyze video and other relevant data for targeted baseball prospects.
• Establish relationships and conduct personal interviews with players, their families, coaches, and advisors within the region.
• Provide professional scouting coverage as assigned.
• Effectively communicate player updates and preference lists to internal stakeholders.
