About The Position

TerraPower is a nuclear technology company focused on developing advanced nuclear reactors and medical isotopes. They are seeking a highly motivated Area/Project Manager to oversee the Civil & Undergrounds portion of a new build power station in Wyoming. This role involves managing subcontractors, ensuring safety, quality, and schedule adherence in a rural, high-visibility environment. The position transitions focus from earthworks and undergrounds to foundations and structural steel as the project progresses. The role also emphasizes strong union and labor relations, project management, coordination, and safety and quality leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience managing civil, undergrounds, and structural scopes on large industrial or power‑generation projects.
  • Knowledge of union craft environments, hiring hall processes, and Wyoming Building Trades agreements.
  • Demonstrated success managing large crews, heavy equipment operations, and complex structural work.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a rural, schedule‑critical, multi‑contractor environment.
  • Candidates must meet the minimum education and experience criteria applicable to the role, including relevant nuclear industry experience where required.

Responsibilities

  • Project manage subcontractor efforts pertaining to all site-wide mass excavation, grading, haul roads, laydown development, and earthwork operations.
  • Support coordination of installation of underground utilities: water, sewer, stormwater, firewater, duct banks, grounding grids, and deep excavations.
  • Coordinate with IUOE Local 800 operators, Laborers 1271, Carpenters 1620 and other regional locals on shoring, trenching, rigging, and formwork.
  • Project manage and track subcontractor efforts pertaining to geotechnical compliance, compaction testing, soil conditioning, and QA/QC documentation.
  • Support coordination of subcontractors performing civil works, ensuring alignment with EPC sequencing and engineering deliverables.
  • Monitor adherence for worksite of adherence to Wyoming safety standards for excavation, confined spaces, and heavy equipment operations.
  • Coordinate daily with superintendents, general forepersons, and craft stewards.
  • Monitor and mitigate schedule risks with subcontractors related to weather, soil conditions, equipment availability, and worker dispatch.
  • Transition leadership to deep foundations, concrete placements, anchor bolt installation, and major structural foundations.
  • Project manage and track subcontractor efforts pertaining to erection of building steel, including heavy structural members, pre-engineered buildings, and equipment support structures.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to assure appropriate craft assignments with Ironworkers Local 27, Carpenters 1620, Laborers 1271 and other regional locals for rebar, formwork, rigging, and steel erection.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure alignment with engineering IFC releases, RFI resolution, and material delivery schedules.
  • Project manage subcontractor sequencing for critical path structures: turbine building, control building, cooling systems, and auxiliary structures.
  • Project manage and track subcontractor efforts pertaining to crane planning, lift studies, and rigging plans in coordination with operators and ironworkers.
  • Project manage and track subcontractor efforts pertaining to maintenance of quality control for concrete, rebar, embeds, structural steel tolerances, and bolting/welding compliance.
  • Support turnover planning for structural areas transitioning to mechanical and electrical installation.
  • Work closely with Wyoming Building Trades, local business managers, and craft stewards to maintain stable labor conditions.
  • As liaison, support hiring hall dispatch, manpower forecasting, and craft ratio compliance.
  • Maintain strong relationships with local union leadership to ensure uninterrupted field progress.
  • Work with subcontractors as they develop and maintain area specific schedules, three week ‘look aheads’, and daily execution plans.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, and construction management to resolve design issues and maintain material flow.
  • Project manage and track subcontractor efforts pertaining to cost performance, productivity tracking, earned value metrics, and forecasting for civil and structural scopes.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors on productive daily coordination meetings with superintendents, forepersons, safety, QA/QC, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure compliance with EPC procedures, environmental permits, and Wyoming regulatory requirements.
  • Support interface with owners, regulators, and third-party inspectors.
  • Champion a zero-incident culture across excavation, undergrounds, concrete, and steel operations.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure compliance with Wyoming OSHA, MSHA (if applicable), and EPC safety programs.
  • Project manage and track subcontractor efforts pertaining to quality documentation, inspection test plans, and turnover packages for civil and structural systems.
