About The Position

Western Timberlands is seeking a dynamic and experienced Area Manager to lead the Springfield/South Valley Area operating team in the South Oregon Region. This role is based in Eugene, Oregon, and reports directly to the South Oregon Region Manager. The newly combined Springfield and South Valley operating areas span approximately 400,000 acres and includes a dedicated staff of foresters, engineers, harvest managers, and functional support staff. There are ~20 non-production and ~22 hourly production employees. The salaried team will include dedicated leads for each of the 3 primary disciplines (forestry, harvesting, and engineering) that report directly to the Area Manager. The Area Manager leads and drives the execution of Western Timberlands' operating strategy in alignment with the South Oregon Region Roadmap.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree preferred with a minimum of 10 years of related job experience.
  • Proven ability to engage in a diverse organization, drive continuous improvement, develop people, and create a positive work environment.
  • Achieve results through effective collaboration and resource utilization across the business, region, and including external stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of key financial and business metrics to identify opportunities and drive results.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills with a proven ability to support and guide change initiatives.
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Manage all operational activities and business outcomes for the team. Foster an effective and engaged culture, establish efficient processes, and oversee financial budgeting, tracking, and monitoring. Management of the Springfield Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement.
  • Set clear expectations, manage measurable and time-bound goals, provide continuous feedback, and address issues promptly.
  • Partner across organizational and functional boundaries to optimize the supply chain, drive operational excellence, and replicate best practices.
  • Serve as the site representative and work collaboratively with the South Oregon Region Team, including planning, marketing, and logistics.
  • Spend time in the field to ensure alignment with staff and contractors.
