About The Position

Western Timberlands is seeking a dynamic and experienced Area Manager to lead the St Helens Area operating team in the Lower Columbia Region. This role is based in Castle Rock, Washington, and reports directly to the Lower Columbia Region Manager. The St Helens Operating Area spans approximately 375,000 acres and includes a dedicated staff of foresters, engineers, harvest managers, and administrative assistants. There are 22 salaried staff and 21 hourly production employees. The salaried team includes dedicated leads for each of the 3 primary disciplines (forestry, harvesting, and engineering) that report directly to the Area Manager. The Area Manager leads and drives the execution of Western Timberlands' operating strategy in alignment with the Lower Columbia Region Roadmap.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree preferred with a minimum of 10 years of related job experience.
  • Proven ability to engage in a diverse organization, drive continuous improvement, develop people, and create a positive work environment.
  • Achieve results through effective collaboration and resource utilization across the business, region, and including external stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of key financial and business metrics to identify opportunities and drive results.
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills with a proven ability to support and guide change initiatives.
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Management of the St Helens Collective Bargaining Unit Agreement.
  • Set clear expectations, manage measurable and time-bound goals, provide continuous feedback, and address issues promptly.
  • Partner across organizational and functional boundaries to optimize the supply chain, drive operational excellence, and replicate best practices.
  • Serve as the site representative and work collaboratively with the Lower Columbia Region Team, including planning, marketing, and logistics.
  • Spend time in the field to ensure alignment with staff and contractors.
