About The Position

Maximize effectiveness of available resources by coordinating all phases of the trades’ activities in the assigned area to deliver high quality, timely service. The Area Manager, Trades shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below. Manage the trades activities, and other support functions, for maintenance and operations within assigned area for maximum utilization of personnel and resources. Ensure consistent work quality for all shifts. Coordinate the maintenance and operation trades by review and assignment of activities to meet the District needs. Make visitations to work in progress as often as possible. Review plans and specifications for major projects. Coordinate drawings and specifications to expedite work to be performed within the District. Interact on a regular basis with Area Directors and Area Superintendents of assigned area to ensure work progress and output meets or exceeds required standards. Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement and take appropriate action. Respond to inquiries or concerns in a timely manner by preparing or overseeing the preparation of all required reports and maintaining appropriate records. Interview, hire and supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals and make recommendations for appropriate employment action. Manage assigned area trade’s budget and ensure compliance with best financial practice. Perform and promote all activities in compliance with the equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida. Participate in training programs offered to enhance the individual skills and proficiency related to job responsibilities. Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibilities. Ensure adherence to safety rules and procedures. Follow federal and state, as well as School Board policies. Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee.

Requirements

  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
  • Minimum of nine (9) years of experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • Successful completion of an apprenticeship program or county certification or state certification in one of the trades.
  • OR An earned associate's degree from an accredited institution. Minimum of seven (7) years of successful work experience and/or training in the filed related to the title of the position.
  • OR An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. Minimum of five (5) years of successful work experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
  • AND Ability to coordinate, schedule, and supervise the district trades for maximum efficiency and utilization of personnel.
  • Computer skills as required for the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred degree majors include building construction or related field.
  • Preferred experience involving commercial construction projects with a basic knowledge of the various skilled trades.
  • Bilingual skills preferred.
