About The Position

Specialized Dental Partners is seeking an Area Manager of Operations to support and oversee the day-to-day operations of dental practices within the Chicagoland area. This role involves full P&L responsibility, focusing on improving processes and profitability through local growth initiatives. The Area Manager will build and maintain strong relationships with doctors, practice managers, and their teams, including those in newly acquired practices. This position requires frequent travel to support business decisions, leadership development, and operational efficiency. The Area Manager must balance preserving unique practice cultures and brands with driving future growth and innovation.

Requirements

  • 5 years of progressive operational management experience with a record of success
  • Multi-site, multi-state experience including full P&L responsibility
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible location management model versus conformation to rigid standardization
  • Ability to manage multiple projects within a fast-paced organization
  • Ability to prioritize and execute solutions quickly and efficiently
  • Demonstrated business acumen and knowledge of staffing, capacity, ROI, budget, margins, service and product offerings, to implement and drive strategic and relevant operational outcomes
  • Good understanding and experience with HR issues
  • Has a great understanding of how to implement operational processes
  • Must reside in the Chicagoland area

  • Previous Dental Practice Management experience
  • Healthcare Operations experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Responsibilities

  • Supports strategic direction provided by Director
  • Partners with HR, Finance, and Marketing to ensure best practices throughout their area
  • Builds relationships and trust with doctors, Practice Managers, and their teams
  • Creates a schedule of practice visits to consistently show up in person and spend time with each team
  • Serves as the first point of contact for practice-level teams, demonstrating self-awareness to identify root issues and involve appropriate partners for next steps
  • Follows through on action items and next steps with appropriate partners
  • Makes factual decisions, keeping emotions out of the process
  • De-escalates 'urgent matters' from the practice level to allow time for detailed investigation, involvement of appropriate partners, and decision-making consistent with the organization
  • Mentors and trains Practice Managers on day-to-day operations, process improvement, and best practices through weekly visits, focusing on financials, patient care, and team engagement
  • Consistently reports and manages key practice KPIs
  • Creates a consistent cadence and format across all locations for reporting on days, volume, labor, overall volume
  • Maintains a basic understanding of the P&L of individual practices
