About The Position

The Area General Manager will have initial scope of responsibility for overseeing up to 2 properties within the portfolio. This role is responsible for producing results based on well-developed short and long-term financial and operation plans that support company goals and objectives in areas such as revenue, market share performance, guest satisfaction, employee satisfaction, asset preservation, and net operating income. The Area General Manager will hold teams accountable for results and strategy execution while displaying leadership qualities that motivate and inspire people to perform their best every day. This includes evaluating performance by analyzing and interpreting data and metrics, generating growth, increasing income, reducing expenses and costs, increasing productivity, and training staff. The role also involves maintaining and renovating facilities, updating systems, programs, and procedures, and working with hotel leadership and brand partners to maintain relationships, support alignment, and growth. Developing talent and future leaders is a key aspect of this position, which will require traveling to properties, meetings, industry and brand conferences, and trade shows.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of progressively responsible, on-property, operations experience leading to an Area General Manager level
  • A proven track record of driving operational efficiency, guest satisfaction and revenue growth, with exceptional attention to detail and a focus on quality
  • Analytical thinker with strong understanding of hotel financials (P&L), revenue management, PMS, business intelligence tools such as Marriott (Marsha/Lightspeed), Hilton (GRO/PEP), as well as business intelligence tools such as Profitsword, STR, Travel Click, and Demand 360
  • Food and Beverage experience, and the demonstrated ability to understand and integrate Food & Beverage as a profit center in conjunction with the hotel side of the business
  • Definitive vision for the future, forward thinking, actively engaged in trends and opportunities in the marketplace that would benefit business outcomes
  • Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development
  • Demonstrable knowledge and/or experience driving Sales and Marketing, and Revenue Management strategies
  • Driven leader who over communicates, creatively solves problems, and collaborates effectively with a larger team
  • Proactive, hands-on, roll-up your sleeves, self-directed leadership style that can adapt to change quickly
  • Degree in business, hotel management or another related field required
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of the English language to effectively communicate with guests, associates, and vendors

  • Must have exceptional mathematical and computer skills
  • High school education and relevant training and experience required
  • Ability to timely obtain any required licenses or certificates
  • CPR training required and first aid training required

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the interviewing, hiring, training, evaluating, counseling and termination processes
  • Provide support to managers in employee development
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly meetings to communicate overall direction and provide leadership and communication
  • Prepare annual hotel/operation budget
  • Monitor and correct the performance of the hotel/operation through verification and analysis of guest satisfaction systems and monthly financial reports
  • Maintain and correct product and service quality standards by conducting ongoing evaluations and investigating complaints
  • Establish and maintain effective programs to ensure the security and safety of guests, associates, and StepStone owned or managed assets
  • Establish and maintain a proactive human resources function to ensure associate motivation, training, and development, and ensure compliance with wage and benefit regulations and administration
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance programs to protect StepStone’s managed or owned physical assets
  • Administers an effective security function that protects StepStone managed or owned assets and the safety of guests and associates
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with all departments during functions
  • Scrupulously follow all StepStone and hotel policies and procedures
