About The Position

The Power Transformer Field Service Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the power transformer field service business based out of the Denver Kingston Service Center. The primary focus of this business is preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, relocation, installation, and start-up assistance on power and special transformers at customer facilities. Requirements

  • Five years of experience in power transformer field service (oil processing, regasketing, component replacement) on 230kV class equipment or higher.
  • Deep understanding of power transformer construction and maintenance.
  • Proven ability to coach, mentor, and hold teams accountable.
  • Strong communication skills – able to effectively communicate with diverse audiences from customers to technicians to senior leadership.
  • Ability to make decisions and take action when time or customer pressures are apparent.
  • Strong computer skills – proficient in MS office, Adobe, and testing software (including, but not limited to, Doble, Vanguard, Omicron).
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to travel regionally.
  • Flexible with hours, overtime, and some weekend work as required to meet customer needs and support field team.
  • Successful completion of a background and driving record investigation.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with special transformers is preferred.
  • Two years of experience managing teams in a union environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of HR, budgeting, contracts, P&L management, and financial statements is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, specifically Traverse and business intelligence platforms like DOMO is preferred.
  • Specific safety, environmental, health training preferred: OSHA 10 or 30, MSHA 30 CFR Part 48 A or Part B, Electrical Safety NFPA 70E or equivalent, Lock Out Tag Out and control of hazardous energy, Spill prevention and control.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing all aspects of the power transformer field service business.
  • Preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, relocation, installation, and start-up assistance on power and special transformers at customer facilities.
  • Serving as the primary commercial spokesperson for the Power Transformer Field Service Business.
  • Meeting with customers/IPS Account Managers and conducting site visits to define project scopes of work.
  • Leading quotations activities for field service projects including building job cost estimations, soliciting quotations for rental equipment, subcontractors, and transportation.
  • Coordinating technician/equipment/project schedules, communicating project plans to Local Management Team, IPS Account Managers, and customers.
  • Working with customer and seller to receive PO for jobs.
  • Performing Voice of the Customer reviews to continuously improve customer experience and drive value for IPS.
  • Partnering with the Area General Manager (AGM) to set sales strategies & targets.
  • Providing leadership support, issue resolution, and guidance, including after-hours or weekend availability as required.
  • Managing operations, including hiring, training, and evaluating employees.
  • Ensuring staff is properly trained to work safely, to provide quality repairs, and to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Driving training and adherence to standard work instructions.
  • Participating as part of Denver Kingston Management Team.
  • Partnering with AGM to develop an Annual People Plan (APP) to address workforce planning and training.
  • Managing all power transformer field service activities for multiple crews across the United States.
  • Coordinating with Denver Kingston Shop Team as needed for turnkey projects.
  • Scheduling/managing subcontractors, rental equipment, material delivery, transportation, and travel arrangements.
  • Ensuring daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections and audits are completed and findings are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Managing maintenance and calibration activities for field service equipment.
  • Generating field service reports documenting work performed by field technicians and submitting to customers and IPS Account Managers.
  • Preparing paperwork to Invoice jobs on a timely basis, resolving any issues promptly.
  • Collecting and archiving all job details on IPS server (job cost detail, subcontractor quotes, material lists, reports, schedules, photos, etc.).
  • Engaging with customers, regulatory agencies, suppliers, and senior management to maintain safety, quality, and performance standards.
  • Developing work schedules, managing budgets, and initiating capital equipment purchases.
  • Ensuring continuous production, service quality, and cost control.
  • Collaborating across regional and corporate teams to drive execution.
