About The Position

The Area Director is responsible for the overall management, oversight, and operation of 5–7 specialized residential homes serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health needs, and/or other specialized care requirements. This position ensures the delivery of high-quality, person-centered services while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory, licensing, accreditation, and funding requirements. The Area Director provides leadership and support to home managers and direct care staff, oversees resident care and safety, manages staffing and operational concerns, and serves as a liaison between the organization, residents, guardians, Community Mental Health (CMH), licensing representatives, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Completing monthly face-to-face contacts with residents.
  • Reviewing incidents, accidents, and medication errors.
  • Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Assisting with admissions, discharges, and transitions of care.
  • Ensuring implementation of individual plans of service and behavioral support plans.
  • Overseeing medication administration and compliance.
  • Monitoring medication documentation, storage, ordering, and administration.
  • Investigating medication-related concerns.
  • Providing guidance on medication protocols.
  • Supervising and supporting home managers and direct care staff.
  • Conducting site visits and staff meetings.
  • Completing monthly staff contacts.
  • Assisting with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Addressing staffing concerns, employee relations issues, and disciplinary matters.
  • Ensuring adequate staffing coverage.
  • Participating in on-call responsibilities.
  • Covering shifts as needed.
  • Maintaining safe, clean, and compliant residential environments.
  • Ensuring completion of safety drills, inspections, and environmental reviews.
  • Monitoring infection control and emergency preparedness.
  • Investigating and responding to health and safety concerns.
  • Overseeing daily operations.
  • Monitoring budgets, purchasing, and resource utilization.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Collaborating with organizational leadership on goals.
  • Serving as a primary point of contact for external parties.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure ongoing compliance with all applicable CARF standards, State licensing regulations, HCBS requirements, Community Mental Health (CMH) requirements, Medicaid regulations, and Organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, surveys, and inspections, and develop and implement corrective action plans when necessary.
  • Maintain readiness for licensing, accreditation, and payer reviews.
  • Ensure the provision of quality, person-centered care and services, monitoring resident health, safety, rights, and overall well-being.
  • Complete required monthly face-to-face contacts with residents.
