Area Director

Nara Hotels, Inc.Anaheim, CA
Hybrid

About The Position

Nara Hotels is a family-owned hotel investment and management company based in Southern California. Our portfolio spans branded select-service and extended-stay hotels across the Los Angeles and Anaheim resort markets, operating under Hyatt, Hilton, and IHG flags, with continued growth underway through acquisition. We pair an owner-operator’s attention to detail with institutional discipline: a lean corporate structure, direct access to decision-makers, and accountability for real results. The Area Director is the operating leader above the hotel General Manager — accountable for the total health of each assigned property: financial performance, brand quality, guest satisfaction, team strength, and physical condition. This is the step up from running one hotel to leading several. You will lead through your GMs rather than around them: setting standards, coaching leaders, removing roadblocks, and building teams that deliver sustained results, with the runway to take on additional properties as the portfolio grows.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of hotel operations leadership, including 3+ years as General Manager of a branded select-service or extended-stay hotel; multi-property exposure preferred.
  • A demonstrated record of improving QA scores, guest satisfaction, and operating margins.
  • Fluency in hotel financials (USALI), labor management, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Experience with Hyatt, Hilton, IHG, and/or Marriott systems and standards.
  • Based in Southern California with regular on-property presence at each assigned hotel; valid driver’s license required.
  • Leads through others — develops leaders and holds them accountable to outcomes.
  • Analytical and data-driven; understands the numbers behind the operation.
  • Proactive problem-solver who is comfortable with ambiguity and builds structure where none exists.
  • Calm under pressure; thrives in a lean, fast-moving, high-accountability environment.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Full P&L accountability for assigned hotels: revenue, GOP, and NOI performance against budget.
  • A monthly financial review cadence with each GM covering labor productivity, expense controls, and forecast accuracy.
  • Annual budgets built with ownership and property teams.
  • Brand QA readiness and results at every property, with corrective action plans that stick.
  • Guest satisfaction and loyalty performance; consistent service standards and recovery practices.
  • Preventive maintenance discipline and overall asset condition; input into capital planning and oversight of project execution with ownership.
  • Coach, evaluate, and develop General Managers and property leadership teams through clear expectations and honest, ongoing feedback.
  • Build bench strength and succession coverage for key property roles.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement — developing high-performing teams rather than micromanaging hotels.
  • Standardize SOPs, checklists, and review cadences across properties.
  • Identify problems early and implement durable fixes, not patches.
  • Ensure compliance with life-safety, employment, and brand requirements.
  • Support operational diligence on prospective acquisitions and lead the operational takeover of newly acquired hotels: systems, staffing, SOPs, and brand transition.
