About The Position

Housing & Food Services has an outstanding opportunity for an Area Director in Residential Life to join their team. An effective Area Director supports student retention, socialization and academic success. Collaboration within HFS and the University contributes to consistency and alignment with university - wide goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field
  • Two years of full-time post-graduate residence hall and/or student apartment-related experience
  • Strong oral and written communications skills
  • Evidence of pursuit of ongoing training and personal development
  • Exposure to an academic environment

  • Ability to develop ideas and implement them through teamwork and collaboration
  • A proven track record of delivering results, building accountability for staff and creating a positive working environment characterized by teamwork and innovation

Responsibilities

  • Supervises 2-3 professional staff specializing in student development and community management. First-line supervision of 4-8 student leaders, second-line supervision of up to 12-30 student leaders.
  • Provides operational leadership including strategic planning, goal setting, and oversight of residential community operations
  • Collaborates across Housing & Food Services to support occupancy management, community transitions, and resident experience
  • Manages complex situations and supports student wellbeing through crisis response and participating in the Administrator On-Call rotation supporting the Resident Director On-Call.
  • Oversees administrative responsibilities including budget management, reporting and documentation for areas of oversight
  • Leads residential education and student development programming by creating and implementing community development plans that foster student engagement, belonging, and success
  • Contributes to key aspects of the residential experience including mediation, policy enforcement, adjudication, crisis management, office and after-hours services, and community development
  • Participates in recruitment, selection, training, and development of student leaders and full-time staff to effectively support residential communities
  • Provides leadership for department initiatives, committees, and projects that advance Residential Life goals and enhance the resident experience
