About The Position

This position is responsible for the marketing, transportation, and procurement of by-products (chips, sawdust, bark, shavings and other residual fiber) for the manufacturing facilities in Washington and Oregon (approximately $100MM gross mill margins in by-products and $30MM transportation service contract expenditures annually). By-product marketing and transportation must be executed in a manner that maximizes return to the facilities, assures the integrity of facility production schedules, and aligns with overall region procurement and marketing strategies. This position is also accountable for an entrepreneurial approach to understanding all market options including emerging markets, export markets and capturing associated opportunities to generate incremental margin.

Requirements

  • BA or BS degree in Forestry, Business, Marketing, Logistics or other applicable discipline preferred; Ten (10) years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of the degree.
  • At least 3 years’ experience in by-products related field
  • At least 7 years’ experience in raw material marketing
  • Understanding of Weyerhaeuser contractor safety expectations

Responsibilities

  • Leads day-to-day commercial management of by-product streams at our Raymond, Longview, Lebanon, Cottage Grove Lumber mills and Eugene ELP mill in Washington and Oregon
  • Owns customer execution, pricing, contract execution, logistics coordination, and issue escalation for assigned mills
  • Coordinates closely with mill operations, Raw Materials, Finance, Timberlands, and other stakeholders to support execution
  • Region Raw Material Manager and Marketing on strategic, development, and broader cross-functional activities
  • Ensure alignment with approved organizational and site-specific procedures, including grinding, material handling, lockout/tagout, hot work, confined space requirements, and Raw Material Safety Council.
  • Support environmental compliance and community-facing considerations as applicable to by-product handling, storage, and movement
  • Manage customer relationships, pricing, contracting, and volume commitments
  • Work directly with mill operations to align production, quality, and delivery requirements
  • Actively participate in supported mill leadership teams and remain engaged in mill communications relevant to by-product operations
  • Work directly with mill and area Finance and Planning managers to align sales and cost forecasting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, with planning formats aligned to broader raw materials planning where appropriate
  • Coordinate logistics (trucking, rail, stockpile management) with internal and external partners
  • Escalate constraints, outages, or safety concerns impacting by-product flow
  • Engaged in capital project planning and mill operational change processes
  • Ensure compliance with all by-product sales agreements, FSAs, MSAs, and site-specific contracts
