About The Position

The Area Assistant Manager supports the Area Manager in overseeing the daily operations of two Japanese food and sushi locations. This position serves as an operational leader responsible for maintaining exceptional customer service, supporting department leads, ensuring consistent execution of company standards, and helping achieve financial and operational goals. The Area Assistant Manager is expected to become a well-rounded operational leader with working knowledge of every major department, including retail, sushi, kitchen, and customer service. This role is designed to develop future regional leadership by combining administrative management with hands-on operational experience. Success in this position requires professionalism, adaptability, strong communication skills, and a willingness to lead by example while supporting the company’s commitment to quality Japanese cuisine and outstanding guest experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Area Manager in overseeing operations at two locations.
  • Act as Manager on Duty when assigned.
  • Promote a culture centered on hospitality, teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Support department leaders in meeting operational goals.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure stores maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety.
  • Help identify operational opportunities and recommend improvements.
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures when needed.
  • Provide leadership during busy periods by directing labor where it is most needed.
  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Ensure guests receive prompt, courteous, and knowledgeable assistance.
  • Resolve customer concerns professionally and efficiently.
  • Coach employees on customer service expectations.
  • Promote an environment that encourages guests to return and create memorable dining experiences.
  • Assist the Area Manager with weekly schedule creation, timecard review and corrections, PTO request administration, attendance tracking, labor management, employee documentation, performance follow-up, inventory documentation, operational reporting, communication with department managers, and other administrative responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in basic kitchen operations within the first 90 days.
  • Understand food safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Follow standardized recipes.
  • Assist kitchen staff during peak business periods.
  • Understand production flow and station organization.
  • Demonstrate the ability to consistently prepare the company’s five highest-selling sushi rolls according to company standards within 90 days.
