About The Position

RieLes Group, LLC is seeking a qualified Archivist to support an anticipated FEDLINK Library Support Services task order for the archival processing of the Isaac Stern Papers and, if exercised, the Jack Gottlieb Papers at the Library of Congress. The Archivist will serve as the lead archival authority and day-to-day project lead. This position will support planning and assessment, appraisal/reappraisal, processing plan review, archival arrangement decisions, preservation concern escalation, quality control, Government coordination, acceptance support, and rework management.

Requirements

  • Archives/library background and experience performing similar work
  • Knowledge of archival principles, concepts, and techniques, including analysis, organization, arrangement, and description of archival materials
  • Experience processing archival or special collections materials
  • Ability to identify preservation concerns and perform or direct basic preservation support, such as rehousing and preservation photocopying
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work professionally with Government and Library staff
  • Ability to complete required Library-provided training prior to beginning applicable work
  • Ability to safely handle archival materials and lift up to 35 pounds

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with music collections, performing arts collections, manuscripts, audiovisual materials, photographs, scrapbooks, or special-format collections.
  • Familiarity with ArchivesSpace, EAD, finding aids, or archival metadata workflows
  • Knowledge of American music history or ability to read music notation
  • Knowledge of Hebraic languages or Jewish liturgical music is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Lead archival survey, planning, assessment, and appraisal/reappraisal activities
  • Review and support finalization of collection Processing Plans
  • Guide arrangement and description decisions in accordance with approved plans and the Library guidance
  • Identify duplicate materials, preservation concerns, fragile items, and materials requiring special handling
  • Oversee quality control for arrangement, folder titles, date ranges, box/folder data, and descriptive consistency, and deliverables
  • Coordinate questions, recommendations, and status updates with Library staff
  • Support acceptance review, corrective action, and rework if required
  • Ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with archival standards and project requirements
