About The Position

This position is within the Department of State, Division of Library and Information Services, Bureau of Archives and Records Management. The working title for this role is Florida Memory Outreach Specialist. This is an Open Competitive position.

Requirements

  • Four years of direct experience. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for the required years of experience.
  • One year of professional experience in writing, marketing, media relations, public relations, or related area.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills including word processing.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use common social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of digital preservation standards.
  • Knowledge of Florida history.
  • Knowledge of archival organizations and systems.
  • Ability to conduct research.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize individual work assignments.
  • Ability to work in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in English, Communications or History.
  • Advanced knowledge of current social media platforms.
  • Experience coordinating social media posts for an organization.
  • Experience conducting digital preservation of archival media such as photographs and films.
  • Coursework, formal training or work experience in archives or records management.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and maintains an in-depth knowledge of State Archives collections in order to select materials including documents, photographs, and videos to share on Bureau social media platforms. Researches and prepares accompanying text of the material and submits through the internal review process for approval.
  • Coordinates details of outreach events for external groups attending on-site Florida Memory and Bureau tours and presentations. Assists the Florida Memory Supervisor in preparing materials, equipment, and other items needed for both Florida Memory and Bureau events and presentations.
  • Assists in the digitization, editing, and clipping of films for the purpose of sharing on Bureau social media platforms and also prepares digital preservation versions of these films according to current standards.
  • Responds to patron questions related to outreach events and collections.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
