About The Position

The American Heritage Center (AHC) at the University of Wyoming is responsible for maintaining the University's Archives and collecting, preserving, and disseminating historical documentation. The Archives Internship involves working with University Archives material to arrange and describe records of the University of Wyoming Archives. This role supports the administrative and educational curriculum of the University by enabling historical research and interpretation.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at the University of Wyoming.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, performing them in a relatively short period of time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both in oral and written format.
  • Computer, software, and writing skills commensurate with the creation of college level class assignments.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to analyze and describe collection contents to provide suitable finding aids.
  • Physically capable of moving large numbers of boxes weighing 25lbs to 75lbs and dealing with dust, dirt, and other potential allergens, with or without reasonable accommodations.

Nice To Haves

  • Interest in modern history, archives, museums, and libraries.
  • Knowledge of archives theory and practice.

Responsibilities

  • Organize archival materials including paper, photographic, audio-visual, and digital documents.
  • Create catalog records, descriptive content lists, and finding aids to be posted online.
  • Work with the University Archivist on special projects as needed.
  • Lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.
