About The Position

Celebrating their centennial anniversary in 2026, La Opinión is the largest Spanish-language newspaper in the United States and the second-most read newspaper in Los Angeles. Incorporating efficient processing techniques, the intern will gain practical experience arranging and describing archival records, including audiovisual material, using archival software and library systems. The intern will also assist with accessioning and acquisitions procedures for archival collections, including collections intake and documentation. The Archival Accessioning and Processing Intern is an opportunity, funded by the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Science Initiative, to support undergraduate or graduate students aspiring to work in museums and libraries, and provide them with hands on experience in a library setting with professionals in Library Special Collections. This is a 9-week, full-time opportunity from June 1 – July 31, perfect for an aspiring library or archives professional with an interest in archives, archival processing, audiovisual materials, and Los Angeles history. S/he/they will demonstrate a background of working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, geographic and socioeconomic backgrounds, using a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible approach. The Huntington Library is one of the world’s great independent research libraries, with more than 12 million items spanning the 11th to the 21st century. Every year, researchers from over 30 countries make more than 20,000 visits to the Library’s reading rooms, and thousands more remote researchers make use of the Library’s virtual services and digital collections. Some 80 Library staff members play a critical role in cultivating and expanding access to the collections, creating new opportunities for discovery and engagement, and ensuring that collections are preserved for the future.
