About The Position

SMMA is seeking a design professional with over 3 years of experience to join their architecture discipline in their Providence, RI office. This role is designed for individuals aiming to gain independence in conceptual and technical tasks while actively contributing to project teams. SMMA is a 70-year-old firm that integrates architecture, engineering, interior design, and planning. They operate across seven markets: Development, Government, Higher Education, K-12, Life Sciences, Technology, and Workplace, offering diverse project opportunities. Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Professional degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 3+ years professional experience, project work experience similar to SMMA’s portfolio preferred.
  • In pursuit of Architectural licensure.
  • Familiar with a BIM-centered workflow and other common and novel digital design and management tools.
  • Strong verbal and graphical communication skills.
  • Understands project delivery processes and consultant coordination.

  • LEED, WELL, or other sustainable accreditations a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with team members, contractors, and consultants.
  • Ability to clearly develop design concepts and technical solutions.
  • Assist in preparing design presentation packages, renderings, and reports that communicate design intent to the project team and clients.
  • Support the development of the projects from schematic design through construction documents.
  • Coordinate with structural, civil, MEP, and specialty consultants.
  • Demonstrate expertise in building systems, construction methods, and project delivery.
  • Apply knowledge of sustainable design practices, building technologies, and industry trends.
