About The Position

Hill International is seeking an Architectural Inspector in Houston, Texas. This role involves conducting daily observations of construction work to ensure compliance with approved contract drawings, specifications, RFIs, Change Orders, and approved submittals and shop drawings. The inspector will issue Observation Reports for non-compliance, attend installations requiring owner representation (flexible hours), and provide quality control and inspection expertise in architectural and structural systems. Responsibilities also include tracking and following up on Non-Compliance Reports (NCRs), preparing inspection reports, maintaining on-site project documentation, attending various project meetings, monitoring as-builts and punch lists, and staying current with relevant codes and regulations.

Requirements

Minimum of 3 years of project management and construction management experience or 10 years of experience in the related construction trade, including one year of supervisory experience.
May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one-to-one basis.
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, construction sciences, or other construction-related field.
Knowledge of architectural details, partition ratings, finishes, and doors.

ICC Certified (by discipline e.g., plumber, electrical) is suggested.

Responsibilities

Conduct daily observations of construction work for compliance with approved contract drawings, specifications, Requests for Information (RFIs), Change Orders, and approved submittals and shop drawings.
Issue Observation Reports noting conditions of non-compliance, with proper references to detailed drawings and specifications sections.
Attend early morning, evening, or after-hours installations (e.g., concrete pours) requiring owner representation; flexible hours are required for construction observations.
Provide quality control and inspection expertise in the area of architectural and structural systems.
Track and follow up on Non-Compliance Reports (NCRs) on Project Work Space (PWS) or Unifier.
Prepare reports of inspections on PWS and Unifier.
Maintain and organize on-site project documentation, including inspection and test reports, RFIs, Architect’s Supplemental Instructions (ASIs), and project change control documents on PWS or Unifier.
Attend pre-construction meetings and regular onsite construction meetings.
Attend pre-outage planning meetings.
Monitor as-builts and punch lists.
Review punch lists for above ceiling, open wall, and Substantial Completion inspections, and revisit to confirm completion of deficiencies on PWS.
Stay current in codes and regulations applicable to design and construction, including International Building Codes, NFPA 101, TDLR, OSHA, ADA, ASHRAE 90.1, SWPPP, and any special requirements of the building type (e.g., healthcare, research labs, special campus project types, etc.).
Interface with MDA Sr Inspector and provide support to users, campus operations, architects, engineers, contractors, utilities, and regulatory agencies to assist with resolution of conflicts as directed.
