About The Position

Flad is a national architectural firm, with ten offices across the country, specializing in science, healthcare, academic, and workplace spaces. Flad is a team of creative, intelligent, energetic people who help our clients tackle the issues that change people’s lives. This role involves preparing presentation drawings and models, developing design and technical solutions, coordinating with internal team members and consultants, and contributing to design discussions. The associate will also be involved in design development, documenting decisions, evaluating project impact, and generating/refining drawings from design documentation to final documentation. Additionally, the role includes coordinating with consultants, attending client meetings, participating in construction site visits, and identifying/resolving conflicts during construction.

Requirements

  • Minimum two years recent and relevant architectural experience required
  • Portfolio that demonstrates a high level of skill in design thinking and presentation media required
  • Proficiency in Rhino or SketchUp, and 3D rendering software required
  • Intermediate Revit knowledge required; have recently used Revit for at least two years in academic and professional settings
  • Works mostly in Revit to complete work on projects in one or more aspects (modeling, detailing, etc.)
  • Makes edits to and works within established templates, standards, etc.
  • Beginning to understand how firm projects are initially set up and how families are created
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in one of Flad’s market segments preferred
  • Expert Revit knowledge preferred
  • Experience with real time rendering engines (e.g., Enscape, Twin Motion, etc.) to generate still animations and renderings, Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), visual scripting programs (e.g., Grasshopper and Dynamo), Adobe Creative Suite, and AutoCAD preferred
  • NAAB accredited professional degree or Master’s degree in architecture preferred
  • Sustainability accreditation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Preparing presentation drawings and models
  • Developing design and technical solutions throughout all phases of a project
  • Coordinating with internal team members and consultants
  • Developing a project’s program into alternative conceptual design proposals
  • Participating and contributing to design discussions, idea generation, and design work in drawing, model, and 3D image formats
  • Preparing and taking ownership of design development, documenting decisions, and evaluating project impact
  • Working closely with team members to complete projects on aggressive schedules by meeting deadlines within expected time and budget constraints
  • Generating and refining drawings from design documentation to final documentation
  • Coordinating with consultants and other disciplines
  • Attending client meetings to observe the overall process and develop presentation skills
  • Participating in construction site visits to better understand the construction process
  • Recognizing and documenting conflicts that arise during construction and offering alternatives to resolve these issues
