About The Position

The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is seeking an Architect to join its Asset & Capital Management (A&CM) Division, specifically within the Architecture & Engineering Services (AES) department. AES provides design services and oversight of AE firms for capital projects and strategic initiatives, setting design standards and performance requirements. The selected candidate will perform architectural tasks requiring independent thinking and innovative approaches to maintain the Authority's aging infrastructure. This role involves research, design preparation, specification writing, contract management, and coordination with various teams and external firms to meet capital plan obligations. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to the modernization and sustainability of NYCHA properties, improving residents' quality of life.

Requirements

  • A valid New York State Registration as an Architect.
  • Current New York State Registration as an Architect must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
  • For Assignment Levels II and III: at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex and important research, investigations, studies or examinations related to the architectural function and scope of capital projects, including Building Code and Zoning analysis.
  • Prepare drawings related to the architectural plans for major projects for the construction, renovation or repair of public works, structures or installations, and review architectural and engineering drawings.
  • Prepare specifications and support the development of cost estimates and estimates of quantities.
  • In connection with architectural projects, make interpretative detailed sketches or layouts of intricate or fundamental portions or aspects of the architectural plan as proposed or adopted.
  • Prepare analyses of the spatial organization and efficient utilization of sites and structures, utilities and appurtenances, as well as the functional arrangement of interior layouts.
  • Solve problems and interpret design and construction contracts.
  • Write reports including Existing Conditions Assessments, Programming Reports and Basis of Design Reports.
  • Contract management.
  • Coordinate with other design staff and teams to meet the capital plan obligation goals for the Asset and Capital Management Division (A&CM).
  • Perform project document coordination between architectural, engineering and other relevant disciplines and ensure completion of contract packages.
  • Develop designs for exterior envelopes and interior renovations of a complex nature.
  • Develop designs to meet ADA and accessibility requirements.
  • Coordinate the design of projects and project teams including coordinating the work of professional engineers.
  • Serve as a consultant on major architectural projects.
  • Prepare original reports of a complex nature.
  • Make field visits and conduct site surveys.
  • Sign and seal architectural and other official documents. File documents at the NYC Department of Buildings.
  • Manage project files.
