About The Position

NELSON is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented Architect to join our Healthcare Practice. This role will serve as both a technical leader and project manager, guiding projects through the design process, production of construction documents, and construction administration; from concept through completion while balancing design excellence, project performance, client expectations, and business objectives. Professional licensure as a Registered Architect (RA) is strongly preferred, but is not required for candidates who demonstrate the appropriate level of technical expertise, project leadership, and relevant healthcare project experience.

Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of design, trends, construction methodology, materials application, and manufacturer-supplier appropriateness.
  • Basic knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
  • Ability to “salvage” troubled Clients, accounts, and/or projects.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations, Life Safety codes, building systems, and ADA requirements.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally, graphically and in writing.
  • Proficiency in contract administration.
  • Proficiency to organize, prioritize and effectively meet deadlines and provide high quality service to clients.
  • Strong working knowledge in project management/planning software; Deltek Vision or VantagePoint preferred (Project Planning, Contract Management, Resource Management, and more).
  • Working knowledge of HubSpot CRM, MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, Project, etc.
  • Good understanding of Revit, AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop.
  • Good working knowledge of AIA Documents and other contract types.
  • Good writing skills to develop proposals to Clients with a clear understanding of scope of work and fee.
  • Basic contract understanding, include terms and conditions, and best practices for contracting with Clients and Consultants.
  • Approximately 5-10 Years of Experience Post-Graduation.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Healthcare Design in one or more of the following project types: Hospital and Medical Centers, Medical Specialty Facilities, Physician(s) Offices, Medical Realty Developers.
  • Project Manager or Associate position growing toward Associate or Principal.
  • Graduated from NAAB Architecture Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional licensure as a Registered Architect (RA) is strongly preferred.
  • General understanding of NewForma and BlueBeam Revu preferred, but not required.
  • Issued Architecture License Number from a State Authority strongly preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architectural and technical development of projects from schematic design through construction documents and construction administration as appropriate to project contract including plans, details, wall sections, building assemblies, schedules, specifications, and other architectural documentation.
  • Translate design concepts and client requirements into coordinated, technically sound architectural solutions.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable codes including FGI guidelines, construction methods, building systems, materials, and professional practice standards.
  • Continually study and maintain an understanding of healthcare design principles and current medical trends. Review current healthcare articles and reports, attend healthcare seminars/ conferences when appropriate.
  • Ability to research and become familiar with local Healthcare Design Regulations where projects are located.
  • Develop and manage project scope, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Fee/budget monitoring.
  • Ensure interdisciplinary coordination between all consultants involved in projects before issuance of documents.
  • Lead internal and consultant coordination meetings.
  • Maintain routine client communication, including Weekly Progress Reports and other project correspondence as appropriate.
  • Ensure project documentation such as meeting minutes, call logs, etc. are recorded and saved in the project folder.
  • Project manual coordination.
  • Identifying scope changes/additional services.
  • Following issues through resolution.
  • Identify project challenges/ risks and develop recommended solutions for review with senior staff when appropriate.
  • Be involved in QA/QC process and ensure corrections are incorporated before project milestones to maintain quality of documentation.
  • Work with MBI leadership and marketing team to identify, obtain, and maintain new and current healthcare clients.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to emerging professionals and production staff.
