Archaeology Lab Research Assistant

About The Position

This role involves processing historic artifacts, including cleaning, washing, labeling, and bagging them. The assistant will also conduct research to identify artifacts and create digital materials for public outreach, such as blog posts on WordPress (buriedchinatowns.sites.grinnell.edu) and ArcGIS StoryMaps.

Requirements

  • Attention to detail
  • Works well in a team
  • Adheres to archaeology lab rules
  • Able to conduct tedious/repetitive tasks for 2 hour blocks
  • Research skills
  • Microsoft Excel skills
  • Respect for collaborators including Chinese American descendants
  • Anthropology major who has taken ANT 263: Historical Archaeology and/or ANT 290: Archaeological Methods

Responsibilities

  • Process historic artifacts (clean, wash, label, bag)
  • Conduct research to identify artifacts
  • Create related blogposts on WordPress (buriedchinatowns.sites.grinnell.edu)
  • Create other digital materials for public outreach such as ArcGIS StoryMaps
