About The Position

This position is within the Department of State, Division of Historical Resources, Bureau of Archaeological Research. It is a Career Service position. The role involves conducting submerged cultural resource surveys and research on state lands, engaging in geophysical analysis and reporting, reviewing management plans, applications, and reports, managing archaeological databases, and maintaining research vessels. The position requires knowledge of Florida's submerged archaeological record, underwater archaeological field techniques, the ability to conduct underwater surveys using SCUBA, and the ability to travel.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or Maritime Studies, or related field or minimum 6 years professional underwater archaeological fieldwork experience
  • Successfully completed a scientific diving training program (AAUS or equivalent)
  • Boat experience that includes launching, trailering, and operating vessels
  • GIS experience
  • Knowledge of Florida’s submerged archaeological record
  • Knowledge of underwater archaeological field techniques
  • Ability to conduct underwater archaeological surveys
  • Ability to work underwater on SCUBA
  • Ability to travel
