About The Position

We are seeking motivated and reliable Archaeological Field Technicians to join our fast-growing archaeological team. Working across southern Ontario, our team has extensive experience and knowledge conducting all stages of archaeological work — from Stage 1 background studies through to Stage 4 mitigations. You’ll have opportunities to: Participate in archaeological surveys, test excavations, and full site excavations Gain experience with artifact collection, documentation, and site interpretation Work on diverse and challenging archaeological projects across southern Ontario Contribute to meaningful collaboration with Indigenous communities

Requirements

  • Experience with physically demanding outdoor work
  • Ability to lift 30 to 50 lbs, carry 20+ lbs, and perform repetitive physical tasks (shoveling, troweling, screening)
  • Ability to walk or hike up to 10 km per day
  • Willingness to work long field days in hot, cold, wet, or rugged conditions
  • Ability to travel daily to variable project locations and convene at designated meeting points
  • Ability to stay overnight for consecutive days (per diem and accommodation provided)
  • Valid Ontario G driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation (strong asset)
  • Strong teamwork skills, reliability, punctuality, and a professional attitude
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of an archaeological field school
  • An undergraduate degree or ongoing studies in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related fields
  • Previous experience in Ontario archaeological consulting (Stage 2–4)
  • Knowledge of Ontario artifact types
  • Ontario Archaeological Research License (asset)

Responsibilities

  • Participate in Stage 2 surveys, Stage 3 test excavations, and Stage 4 mitigations (teams will be deployed from our London and Etobicoke locations)
  • Experience artifact identification, collection, and processing
  • Assist with field notes, sketches, photographs, and digital records
  • Excavate and screen soil; carry, lift, and move loads of soil and equipment
  • Work in remote areas, uneven terrain, and a full range of weather conditions
  • Support Field Supervisors and Project Managers in daily tasks
  • Work collaboratively and respectfully with Indigenous field representatives
  • Follow health and safety procedures and maintain a “Safety First” attitude
  • Have the opportunity to travel across Ontario, including multi-day overnight work assignments as required
