About The Position

TRC is seeking a talented, motivated, and detail-oriented full-time, permanent Crew Chief or Archaeological Field Director based in our Pittsburgh, PA office to support cultural resources and environmental compliance projects for public and private sector clients. The ideal candidate will have experience in cultural resource management (CRM), strong field and technical skills, and the ability to work effectively in both office and field environments. The candidate will assist with archaeological field investigations, technical reporting, regulatory compliance, and coordination with multidisciplinary project teams in support of infrastructure, transportation, energy, and land development projects predominately throughout the Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia region with the potential to work with other TRC offices/regions when needed. This position will be based on candidate's professional experience and qualifications. This position will require frequent travel away from the home office.

Requirements

  • For Field Director, an MA or MS in anthropology or archaeology.
  • For Field Director, must meet Secretary of Interior’s guidelines to apply for federal permits and have RPA.
  • For Crew Chief, a BA or BS in anthropology or archaeology.
  • Requires 5+ years of cultural resources experience with a consulting firm.
  • Experience in all aspects of archaeological fieldwork, including supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying terrain and weather conditions.
  • Familiarity with digital field technology (GPS units, tablets, cameras).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A commitment to safety.
  • Ability to accomplish tasks in a timely manner, with a track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and management skills.
  • The ability to work well on a team and individually.
  • Knowledge of Section 106 of the NHPA and various state and federal regulations.
  • A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • Regional knowledge of the Mid-Atlantic region is preferred, but not required.
  • Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related discipline.
  • Experience preparing technical reports and regulatory documentation.
  • Familiarity with regional archaeology and cultural history.
  • Experience working with federal, state, or local agencies.
  • OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER certification or similar safety training.
  • Experience supervising field crews or leading field teams.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead fieldwork on all types of archaeological projects, ranging from small local surveys through large, multi-year projects.
  • Handle planning, logistics, and supervision of fieldwork for projects.
  • Assist with preparation of technical reports, cultural resources assessments, and compliance documents, under the direction of the Project Manager/Principal Investigator.
  • Assist with artifact processing, cataloging, and laboratory tasks as needed.
  • Travel to project sites and participate in field assignments, including overnight travel when required for extended periods of time.
  • Promote TRC safety and quality standards, policies and procedures and ensure field employee safety.
  • Ensure that all work and data collected are accurate, organized, and of high quality.
  • Abide by Company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.
