About The Position

This position requires a skilled Arabic Linguist to provide translation, interpretation, and analysis of various materials, including classified reports, data, briefings, and conversations. The role involves delivering written and oral translations, providing assessments, transcriptions, cultural advisement, and media analysis to ensure accurate and timely development of actionable data and products. Linguists will be responsible for translating source texts while maintaining the original meaning and intent. As an interpreter, the individual must have a strong command of both Arabic and English, comprehending spoken and written language, and choosing appropriate expressions that convey the intended meaning. Familiarity with the cultural context of both languages and knowledge of specialized terminology are essential. The role may also involve researching in native languages and writing comprehensive information papers. Linguists may be required to undergo annual evaluations and retesting to determine eligibility for service extensions.

Requirements

  • Current/Active Public trust clearance
  • US Citizenship
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Political Science, International Studies, Anthropology, Communication or a related field from an accredited and reputable institution and 8 years of relevant experience. An additional 4 years experience will be considered in lieu of degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years prior experience working in support of U.S. Armed Forces or U.S. government agencies.
  • Minimum of 3/3/3 scores or higher in testing scores both in English and Modern Standard Arabic within the last 5 years.
  • Must be able to demonstrate objective, unbiased, & logical cultural advisement.
  • Must be able to follow orderly and sequential systematic procedures and guidelines.
  • Excellent listening skills with ability to pay attention to minute details.
  • Comfortable providing presentations and working with small and large groups.
  • In depth cultural understanding of customs, symbolism, mannerisms, traditions of various ethnic groups residing throughout the CENTCOM AOR.
  • Demonstrated capability to work with Microsoft Office applications, i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with Information Operations/ PSYOP/ MISO units in Middle East/SWA Area of Operations.
  • Experience working with U.S. Special Operations Forces or other Military forces in the Middle East.
  • Language ability in another required language; DARI, PASHTO, or FARSI at the same levels.

Responsibilities

  • Provide translation in written and/or oral form.
  • Provide assessments, transcription, translation, interpretation, cultural advisement, and media analysis services.
  • Provide written translations of source texts in one language into another language, as identified above, with the meaning and intent of the original text.
  • Read and comprehend the languages.
  • Write comprehensibly in one of the source languages.
  • Choose the equivalent expression in the Source language that both fully conveys and best matches the meaning intended in the source language.
  • Have a command of both of the languages (Arabic/English) as an Interpreter.
  • Comprehend both the source language and English as spoken and written.
  • Speak both of these languages.
  • Choose an expression in English that fully conveys and best matches the meaning of the source language.
  • Have familiarity with the cultural context of both languages.
  • Have knowledge of terminology in specialized fields.
  • Research in source (Native) languages and write a comprehensive command level information paper.
  • Complete an annual evaluation and retesting process to determine eligibility for possible extension of services.
  • Provide foreign language interpretation, translation, transliteration & transcription, document exploitation (DOCEX) services.
  • Provide written and verbal translation of various types of media from target language to source language while maintaining congruity in judgment.
  • Demonstrate excellent listening skills with ability to pay attention to minute details.
  • Provide presentations and working with small and large groups.
