About The Position
The Swim Instructor is responsible for providing safe, engaging, and effective swim instruction to participants of various ages and skill levels. Instructors will teach both group and private swim lessons, create a positive learning environment, and help swimmers develop confidence and proper swimming skills.
Requirements
- Must be at least 15 years of age.
- Strong swimming skills and knowledge of basic water safety.
- Ability to effectively communicate with children, adults, parents/guardians, and coworkers.
- Ability to work with participants of varying ages, abilities, and skill levels.
- Must be dependable, responsible, patient, and enthusiastic.
Nice To Haves
- Previous swimming or swim instruction experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Teach group and private swim lessons according to Buffalo Grove Park District lesson plans, guidelines, and program expectations.
- Provide instruction appropriate to each participant’s age, ability, and swimming skill level.
- Maintain a safe, positive, and welcoming environment for all participants.
- Demonstrate and teach proper swimming techniques, water safety skills, and stroke development.
- Modify instruction and activities to meet the individual needs of participants.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with participants, parents/guardians, and other staff members.
- Provide appropriate feedback and encouragement to swimmers to help them progress.
- Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled lessons and complete all assigned responsibilities.
- Assist with maintaining an organized and clean teaching area and pool deck.
- Follow attendance, lesson documentation, and other program procedures as required.
- Report safety concerns, participant issues, or facility concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and in-service opportunities.
- Work cooperatively with other swim instructors, lifeguards, and aquatics staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
